Women taking on Combat Roles in the U.S. Military
National News
Well, I say it's about time....Women fought in the Russian army (albeit not necessarily by choice in all cases) in WWII, the Night Witches are rather famous, even, in Military History. Women fight in the Israeli army now, and they've wanted to fight in the US Army for years....
Although, it seems to me that this was more of a migration of roles rather than an active switch from non-combat to combat positions. Since everyone over in Iraq is a potential combatant, it was bound to happen sooner or later. If a woman is capable and willing, more power to them, in my opinion.
During my tour in the military, there were always women in my unit griping (and rightfully so) about the backyard role women were forced to play in the military. The excuse, at the time, was that men would be distracted by women in the field, and would take extra care to protect them instead of paying attention to the mission....what crap.
Military roles are as androgynous as they are dangerous. The women in the U.S. Military are completely capable of pulling the trigger on an M-4 or M-60 and taking down the enemy. Heck, there were a few women in my unit who were more than capable of out-shooting the men.... What do you think about Women in the U.S. Military? Let us hear about it! (DISCUSSION)!
