Sheriff plans DUI patrol tonight

Wichita Low-Lifes

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office will conduct a DUI "saturation patrol" tonight.

Four deputies and a sergeant will be patrolling throughout the county from 11 p.m. through 3 a.m. Saturday with a special focus on drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

According to the Sheriff's Office, drivers and passengers are 2 ½ times more likely to be killed or injured when a crash involves an alcohol-impaired driver.

I guess it depends on the motive (stopping drunk driving for a night vs. teaching drunk drivers a lesson) but doesn't it seem a little counter intuitive for them to warn everyone about this?

Well, not really (in my opinion). By ANNOUNCING they are going to be out with road blocks; they will make people (at least the people who KNOW about it) think twice about drinking and driving.

The police department's ultimate goal is to keep people safe, not write tickets and arrest people. This way they can accomplish two things: keep smart people off the street; those who have a brain....AND still be out in force to stop the idiots who DO still go out and drink.

Just my two cents
