Thanks again to our hosts for providing a new thread. I guess everyone is working today? Do I have to threaten more elevator music? heheheheheheh
I'm trying to think of a Tom Sawyer gimmick to get unsuspecting folks to come to the farm here and help me get some work done:) Things started greening up here about four days ago, and I'm already four WEEKS, not days, behind.
Everyone around here is spoiled now that they can eat my cooking any time. I have trouble now getting folks to "work for food". heheheheheh
Guess I'll have to sweeten the pot to get more help. The prospect of getting home grown tomatoes is too far in the distance to motivate anyone here. When the tomatoes are ripe, I guess I'll go little red hen on all my buddies who managed to be too busy to help :)

I hope you all decide to stay right here. I've been reading the other place occasionaly, and it is slowly withering. The wingnuts that remain continue to amaze me with their self-righteous smugness. They remind me of some of my students....they are basically bullies.....and now they have their halos out, because they think they are in the right...what a joke! Getting away from them is the best thing you guys could have done. Don't go back. This new place will grow and get better. The old place didn't become good overnight. They've already declared "victory", going back would just make them think it more....they are just bullies, and they can't take what they dish out.....leave 'em there to rot.....
just my thoughts......back to lurking!!!!

"The Justice Department is expected to release more e-mails on Monday, and the White House is expected to tell Congress on Tuesday whether it will invoke executive privilege to prevent Bush political adviser Karl Rove and former White House counsel Harriet Miers from testifying."
From here:

The timing here is interesting. The White House looks to be confronting this head-on early in the week. I would have expected the White House to say nothing and then issue a non-denial denial on Friday afternoon. May be interesting.

DD, I find the hand of Fred Fielding in this; confront early, then get the investigation bogged down in the arguments over executive privilege, etc., with the usual arguments over the need to preserve the privilege for future administrations, and all that.

There is a pretty neat feature that comes with all of the InstantSpots http://aaronjlynch.com/index.cfm/event/myfriends
It allows you to post on the site ONLY if you are a member of that Spot's friend network.
Not trying to run off Dubya's traffic, but just wanted to share a feature. He could even enable that section on this site if he so desired.

VT, I agree. They will never let kkkarl or harriet testify. Another part of the "run out the clock" strategy. Like you said, get things bogged down, drag 'em out, and by the end of 2008, the country will be begging for a fresh start. Not helpful to repukes up for election that year, but we all know how bushco cares for "the little people".
They value loyalty until it is no longer needed. I think they are going to defend and protect people they might secretly WANT to throw under the bus, but it serves their own self preservation needs to keep those chess pieces in place and run out the clock.
Mixed metephor, but you know what I mean.
I think SCOTUS will have so many issues to deal with they just wont happen to get around to some unitl the first Monday in October, 2009.

Indeed. Who cries for the baby elephants? Not anyone in the Bush Administration.
VT,
Fred Fielding, indeed. However, I have my doubts that the stonewalling is going to go so well or easily for Administration. It's obvious to everyone that the Administration is guilty as sin (firing Carol Lam the DAY AFTER she notified her higher-ups at DOJ that she was going to execute search warrants against suspects in the Cunningham case), and Leahey is PISSED.
They've lost control of the message and will never get it back again. And while they might try to make this Executive Privilege argument, it's not clear at all to me that it's going to work, or be sufficient to keep Rove or Miers out of the hearing room for another couple of years.

I think the Carol Lam issue has staying power; and, apparently, from a blog posting forwarded me by a client earlier today (the link to which I have, at least for now, lost) so do the apologists. In the post to which I refer above, much is made of the alleged jurisdictional deficiencies in Ms Lam's case; pointing out, with all innocence in the words, that the investigation as it was then moving, was properly under the direction of the L.A. U.S. Attorney, and gee whiz, isn't that the person who should be following up?

I'm still chuckling Tracy. How in the world did you find that bloggers post of almost a year ago? Wonder what his opinion would be today (or a week or two ago)?
In this last week I have read at the old place and each day I find it less interesting, more silly and many of the posts not something I would bother to respond to. I wasn't drawn in often to posting there because I really don't want a part in any fights. I'm a total pacifist. This is the way I want to live. I could be like a mother lion and fight to the death if my children were in danger but I don’t go looking for any fight.
Do you know the word pronoia? It is the opposite of paranoia, and it means that the world is conspiring to shower you with blessings. Perhaps most would call me a Pollyanna or worse. I do know I can be as happy as I decide to be and most days I decide to be pretty happy.
I thank you, my on-line friends, for getting me out of there! It was getting harder to decide to be happy. And we all know we weren’t changing anyone’s mind over there just joining the fray and providing ammunition. I’ll learn more here where we can freely share, ask questions, express doubt and disappointment without getting jumped on.
Longhorn, here in Wichita it is very still. Almost like the still before the storm. It has “that” feeling of a spring storm coming and one we should be aware of.

Part of Rove's perverse brilliance lies in turning people's assets into their liabilities. This is equally true of the current situation, particularly with Carol Lam and David Iglesias. In each case, the performance record of the individual in question actually shows them to have been ememplary in precisely the areas in which they are claimed by Bush flunkies to have been deficient.
Iglesias is said to have been insufficiently tough on voter fraud? Guess that's why in 2005 he was one of two Federal Prosecutors invited to teach at a "voter integrity symposium" held by the DOJ. Lam didn't go after illegal immigrants enough? Guess that's why the DOJ vouched for her handling of such cases, three months before she was thrown out.
Paul Kiel has all the details at TPM Muckraker:

heheheheheeh Linda! No, I'm not THAT kind of developer. The "great divide" in small towns and their economies right now is whether they are located near a "regional economic engine" or not.
Long story, but the head of the polic sci dept at KState did a study on just that subject. Short version is that Topeka/KC, Manhattan, Salina, Wichita, Pittsburg, are all regional economic engines. They generate enough "turn" of new money that they bring the small surrounding towns along with them. It's a change in Kansas, because small towns used to blame their city cousins for destroying their town.
Now, it appears that without proximity to such a "city", small towns are destined to die. I found it interesting that in Joe's study, he points out that Hays and Colby do not help their neighbors. Salina is the last "regional economic engine" on I-70, and it doesnt reach much farther west than Ellsworth or Wilson.
The "rising tide lifts all boats" theory is what I call it. Some of those regional engines generate enough "tide" to lift all boats in the region. Hays and Colby cant generate enough to do that. And as the little towns that feed them wither and die, their engines will slow too. Water flows from west to east, and money and shoppers do too!
So the first question I would ask a potential client is where they are located. I happen to know the town you are near is near Wichita, so that is a great place to start.
All economic development boils down to bringing "new" money into your community, and then keeping it there by "turning" it as many times as possible. So one question to ask yourselves is "what can we do to bring in new money"?
If I havent bored you yet, I'll pontificate more upon request. hehehehehe
Oh, and on the lunch menu here at the farm is sliced smoked beef, stir fried with fresh mushrooms, garlic onions, rice wine vinegar, and jalapenos and serranos. Poured over lo mein noodles already coated in hoisen and soy sauce.

A diversion, and perhaps new topic. "Bong hits 4 Jesus" was argued today at SCOTUS. Predictably, Mr. Starr argued the end of the world; the attorney for the plaintiff's argument, insofar as I'm able to gather from media reports, was in essence, under the Tinker case, Plaintiff's First Amendment rights were clearly violated by the actions of the Principal; and nothing in Tinker, or subsequent cases, changes this. What do y'all think?

Gster, if you are using the same email address in the comment form that you did with your account sign-up, then you should not have to validate your comments. The only reason that would not be true would be if you had not activated your account. Hi Danny, and welcome. We're liberals (mostly) so we ALL have different opinions. That makes the world go 'round, don't ya know!? I think Tracy said it best one day when he admitted he knew we couldn't agree on where to have lunch if he was buying.
Always post as yourself and take credit and responsibility for what you say and believe and you will have my respect. Feel free to change your opinions if new ideas or info sheds light on something and helps you see another side of the issue. I will do the same. We'll both be better Americans for it.

Won't have that problem from me, though I'll probably still steer clear of a few issues for a while. That is until I'm more comfortable in posting my ideas. I don't claim to be knowledgeable on all issues, but certainly possess an opinion on a great many things.
Generally, what you'll get with me is one who reads headlines thinks about what the headline says, then reasons with myself about something I know nothing about, and draw my own personally biased opinion on it.
Gster, I gathered as much reading some of the posts. And as said above(in this post), your likely to not to read alot by me initially. That's just my personality(engineer at heart, shy to the core). Amazing I'm married and have a kid with the second on the way.

I would encourage any and all conservatives that can support their positions without nic switching, trolling or ad hominem attacks to join us.
Believe it or not, those of us on the Left can treat conservatives with respect.

Well, here it is, about 1700 hrs local. The DOJ announced earlier that it would be releasing certain additional emails "by the close of business" today, IIRC. Last time I tried to do business in DC, the "close of business" was not 5 p.m. Central time; it was 4:30 p.m. Eastern time. Wonder what is causing the holdup? Oh, I know; there is just such a voluminous number that they are encountering extreme difficulty in reviewing them to be sure all relevant ones are included within the release.

As usual, a couple of random thoughts......
Now that we have been "outed" at least on conservative has joined us, I would like to invite the rest to make the pilgrimage to WV Blog.
I have also noticed that there are a great number of new bloggers at WE Blog. Usually, there was only one or two new bloggers a week - it looks like there has been at least 15 - 20 new folks join since we left. What's up with that?
Lieberman is making noises again about flipping to the Republicans. He is also saying that he may endorse the GOP's candidate for President in '08. If it were up to me, I would invite Traitor Joe to go ahead and jump. He is trying to hold his tie breaking vote over the heads of the Democrats. Rather than play that game, let the bastard go. We would be better off.
Not much blog interest in the Fourth Anniversary today. Are we getting tired of fighting back against the Bush war machine? Protest weary?
Or are we just sick and tired of being told that we are traitors, terrorist sympathizers, cowards and anti-American?
I am of the opinion that Bush is going to wait out Gonzo-gate. Nothing is going to happen. They will stonewall any investigation and let the clock run out. You will see me testify under oath before Congress before you will see Karl Rove in the hot seat. Nothing is going to happen and the bastards will have won................ again.
Christ, do the good people ever get to win one?
Anyway, that is my two cents worth.............

Will,
You are absolutely right about Rove -- there is no way someone with the inside knowledge he has will ever hold up their right hand and swear to tell the truth. But they won't have won. History will bring up much that has been hidden. It won't be soon enough but it will happen and the legacy this bunch deserves is what history will give them. Their names will be associated with an assault on our constitution, corruption like never before, and the needless deaths of thousands. Add to that the debt they leave the next several generations. No, they haven't won.
Why not wait out as much as possible? Bush has already said getting out of his misbegotten war wasn't going to be up to him. Revenge or even expecting bush&co to be held accountable isn't going to move us forward. I want the whole bunch of them in this administration behind bars where they belong but I also want to see Congress address the many important issues our country faces.
There are those who will always be unable to see the truth. Let's not worry about butting our heads against brick walls in hopes of changing their minds. They have no minds to change.
Maybe we can find a victory in the political arena a lot like we all found by moving here. We are now among honest people with great minds, we're all much calmer and happier. We have blog hosts who value our input. If this Democratic Congress starts getting the job done they will be victorious. The idiots won't face the music NOW but the higher road will have been taken.
I'm with you wondering what all the new posters at the other place is all about. Shoot, maybe each editor has taken on a nic to keep the postings up -- who knows and more importantly, who cares? I'm not going back. I decided today. I had thought I would wait until the end of the month but I don't need more time. Even if this place doesn't make it, you all are in my address book and we will keep in touch. You are people of integrity!

Anyway, it seems that this blog is losing momentum. The number of folks posting has dropped since last week. We need to include some more conservatives and to develop some thread topics.

Before we get too excited or concerned let's remember this week is spring break for Wichita and Maize schools (I have grandchildren in those) and maybe others. Lots of plans were made for this week before our group formed. Spring is here with a venegence and I know I'm trying to get the yard cleaned up after ole man winter, there is basketball on television almost non-stop (which may be important to more people than just me {giggle}), other reasons I can't even think of may have some people otherwise occupied. Some people even work for a living (gasp!). All that said, I would like to see this place busier.
I have nothing interesting to say and remember I posted seldom even at the old place. I've rambled onandon here and that gets boring to me and the readers. I'm more a reader and lurker. Maybe we have several like me out there we could encourage to say something even if it's a hello and a word of encouragement.
We are all very interested in national politics. So let's all find a tidbit somewhere out there in cyberspace to share here tomorrow -- that could be our one-day mission -- worth a try. Maybe one of those things we bring to show and tell will get us going. At least it will give me incentive to be an early bird so I don't have to compete. CF reads more online than I even visit daily. He is good!
Well, I'll shut up now and wait for other better suggestions. I love reading each of you! I like the company I hang with here!

I had suggested early on that we could help with the process for Aaron and Dave, that is, we could help set up the threads, etc.
What do you think, Aaron and Dave ?

CF is game to set up threads. But he's a bit more of a policy wonk than the "average bear" ("Hey Boo Boo! Pick-in-ick baskets, Boo Boo!"), so perhaps such a duty ought not to be trusted to him alone.
This fits with my earlier question soliciting the lists of what places folks go to look. Why doesn't everyone have one thread suggestion per day, write a short blurb, and then clear the threads through either Aaron and Dave, or one of us who's enfranchised to start new threads.
Longhorn could do Kansas issues; WSClark can get the stuff being discussed on the large media sites; lindainks55 can use her acuity and good sense to pick out things where she looks; and CF can play shortstop and find stuff from all over the dang place.
Hey kids, let's put on a show!
Also, linda, how did you get that graphic happening on your posts? I have a picture of me drawn by my seven-year-old friend Frankie that needs to go up.

Above in this thread, Dave's 2:49 post had a link that takes you to a page where there is a control panel. Once there you will find a click for "headshot," or something similar. You wil probably find it immediately. I searched around, lost the fat cat pic at least once and then surprised myself when it appeared. I'm dangerous with this technology -- still operating at 33 rpm around here.

The King of the Blog, Republican is trying to suggest that those of us boycotters are inferior because we are not Native Kansans like he is. Or something like that.
To his credit, GMC is lecturing any and all about manners, but his points are lost on the most notorious of the wingnuts.
But anyway, for the lurkers out there.............

One question for Dave: I design websites, so I'm curious if I can change the background on my own "blog". Not that I have an idea what I want to do, but who knows what evil will lurk in my dark mind. ;)
VT, I remember the old 4-corner stall. Isn't that the reason for shot clocks now? Those stalls sure slowed the game. Bless my dad for my indoctrination into sports. I even remember watching the Monday/Thursday/Friday Night Fights (boxing) as a kid. He wasn't active in sports, himself, but my dad loved watching them. Lazy Sunday afternoons of watching golf (and napping) was common.
Will, republican better watch out. Many of us are natives. I was born here and have spent over half a century in this state and area, but I've visited 48 states, Canada, Mexico, and Cuba. Bet republikkkan can't add the latter to HIS list. *grin* I'll let him know that after the turn of the month.

Dave, I'll do that. I have website clients that added blogs (mostly through blogger.com) to their sites, and I created a new blog "template" to match the site. In fact, I have 2 more to do the same to when there's time. Not a lot of that around here. :)
As for what I plan to do with my I(nstant)S(pot), I don't need to completely revamp. I'll start with a new header and go from there. I have a class reunion coming up in a couple of years (not telling how many years it's been), and a couple of us are going to do a kick off in May to get some interest going. I think a blog like this one will do that. It's easier to read comments, although signing in might be a problem for some of them.
Must be synchronicity. :)

...and just so everyone is clear on the "who's who" over here, Aaron and I are the creators/owners/midnight-coders that created InstantSpot. We really have nothing to do with the Wichita Voice blog specifically other than the fact that we wrote the code underneath it and all the other sites on our network(s). We are still small enough that we are able to keep a fairly hands-on approach and stay in touch with our user base. We like to stay active with what is going on throughout the network, which is why you have seen us posting in these threads.
The owner of the Wichita Voice site/blog (Dubya) is a great guy who took a chance on our infant network very early on and has been one of our most steady bloggers for months now. He has also given us some great feedback which has helped steer or development. He has put a big effort into his Spot and I am glad to see him getting the traffic from the KS crew! I am only clarifying since I saw the question someone posed earlier about creating targeted discussions. That would be something to take up with Dubya! Make sure to keep an eye on the main Wichita Voice blog page too, as he does a lot of targeted blog entries in addition to the open threads.

Did any of you happen to see the ripoff of Apple's Big Brother ad from several Super Bowls back that is making the rounds on YouTube (or so I understand) that is an alleged anti-Hillary campaign ad put together by the Obama campaign? Obama's folks deny it.
The concerns I have center around the ability of anyone, with the commonly available editing, etc. tools, to release stuff like this on the Internet with no realistic chance of being held accountable. Just one more way the technology in the hands of the mean-spirited has outstripped the ability of the campaigns to "direct the message".

I'm in agreement with everyone else about Rove -- he has AT LEAST pics. How long have he and bush been best buds? Goes back a ways, huh?

Been wondering what had happened to you; long time, no read. Hope all is better since your last posts.

Had issues posting over there. Yeah, things are much better. Had a talk with my son’s girlfriend and got a LOT cleared up. That is one troubled little girl. Trying to work things out to make things better for her and my step son. Coming along nicely. Thanx for remembering.

Welcome Paul (sol), pull up a chair and make yourself at home.
Guess some of our posters are sleeping in on this rainy day. Or other things in life are needing attention. Imagine that! lol

Good morning-- uh, good afternoon, all!
"you're like a big old Satanist and all."
CF, just to clear things up, I'm not a Satanist. *grin* However, Satanism is an interesting and varied concept that most are not aware of. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism Check it out. You might learn something new. :)
Now would someone explain the Rove/Barney/photos thing? Other than checking my email, this is the first place I've been to online today.
Hello, Paul/Sol, and welcome!
Happy Spring Equinox/Ostara (First Day of Spring) to everyone!

My take on it is that there is NO explanation for the Rove/Barney/photos thing. The original question was, "Why does Karl Rove still have a job?" Since there is no answer that makes sense, why not blame it on Barney the large purple dinasaur? Or maybe Rove is in possession of photos that could be used to blackmail? Or, what other answers could there be?

Linda, Rove does go back a ways as far as the Bush family is concerned. He was involved in Bush41's admin and was fired for---get this---leaking info to Novak. ;) I'm sure it goes farther back than even that. I do believe he's part of the Texas cabal. Check him out on wikipedia. I know there's info about him and the Bush relationship there, I just don't remember it all.

One more, and then I'm outta here for a while. There's work a'waitin for me.
Paul/Sol, I'm sending hugs to you and yours. It's too bad the ability to produce children doesn't come at the same time maturity kicks in, but because it doesn't, the adults have to help as much as possible. Still, kids will make decisions, no matter what we say, and although they often aren't the best, all we can do is stand back and catch the fallout.
Hoping things get better with time (and age).
