GOD TUBE?

National News

OK. Religion, by my definition is a means with which people before the days of mass communication were able to transmit values and morals to a broad audience. In addition, it was a means with which to explain the unexplainable; the sun rising, the moon, the stars, lightning, life, death, etc.  It gives people a reason not to fear death (in SOME places in the world these days, it almost seems to ENCOURAGE people to meet an early end......).

It is useful today as a means of bringing a community together, of teaching those same morals and values. In illiterata areas of the world is still serves its function VERY WELL and people with the "wrong" message (i.e. Extremists) can still easily get their message out and influence the way people conduct themselves......

However, after living in Texas for a while, I discovered that religion is not just an idea or a belief; it's also BIG BUSINESS. Churches with DVDs of the sermons, celebrity guests, stadium seating, franchises (believe me, they're there), Church CEOs and CFOs....it's Religion gone Corporate.

I think a good exclamation point on that statement can be found on our new friend: www.godtube.com If you think for one minute this is some way to modernize religion for the sake of religion, I would suggest you ask about the revenue they're generating from their Google ads and other traffic....

Here's a rather amusing example of one of the videos I found posted:

It's not really GODtube anyway..more like ChristianTube. I wonder how many hack attempts from the Middle East they receive each day. What happens when Muslims want to post their views and their experiences????

I've always had a suspicion that after the Reformation, the organized Protestant denominations wanted what the Roman Catholic Church had before the Reformation; money, power (economic and political) and control of both. IMHO, Corporate Religion is another attempt to attain this goal.

Jeez, I wonder if God created the banana for the APES to help them EVOLVE into humans..............

Naw, that would be too easy.

ROLF, Will! And close to what I was thinking.

Does this mean we're not to eat bananas out of the peel, like cut up in Jello? What? No banana pie? Because without that banana in my hand, I'm not going to remember this sweet little story. What about people who hate bananas?

This guy really had to reach to come to his conclusions.

Did you know that mosquitoes are attracted to people who eat bananas? Best to eat citrus in the summer, because those skeeters don't like the acid in citrus.

Think that guy can explain that? Or does it all fall back on poor Eve?

Dubya,

I believe many people need faith these days because it's the only thing that keeps them sane. :) Or at least gives some people a purpose in life. There's nothing wrong with having religious faith. It helps people understand boundaries.

I just don't agree that it's possible to buy your way into heaven with $$$. After all, money isn't needed in heaven, or God would be sending dollar bills for every good deed.

I thought it was a joke at first, that he was going to use the banana as a metaphor for something else!
Why do people need to believe that just because something makes sense, it must be created by a god?
I agree that some people need religion as a guide to what is right or wrong, but I also think religion is one of the most destructive forces mankind has ever created.
