Does anyone else find odd that you seldom hear anything about how the Iraqi oil system is doing , and what the $s are used for?

With the amount of OUR money being "spent", I'd like to know how they are using their monies.

Just a muse.

I would think, that given the oil industry is the largest money maker in Iraq, you would find it given the most attention, most inprovements and greatest protection, hence finding the greatest improvements there over the last 4 years.

If that was the case, you'd have heard about it; 'kinda quiet out there regarding this, huh?

I havent even been reading over at blog x this week, so this is NOT in response to anything that may or may not be posted over there. But the characters are so predictible, so bushbotic in their responses, that I can just imagine.

So, fleetie has been wanting the dems to cut off the funds for the war. He's been daring them to pass a binding resolution. While I dont like the bill that just passed the house, it does at least set some BINDING standards.

Heheheheh. I was just thinking...

He's been wishing the dems would do something on impeachment. Could he be lucky and get that wish now too? And isnt the standard three wishes? hehehehe

I have a suggestion for his third wish. This is called "Those who wish to see Rove in jail may get their wish". A little note from a guy who knows. Remember John Dean? hehehehehehehe. hee hee hee heeeee!

I was reading the comments from you folks on the old Open Thread from this morning. You are some damned funny people.............

............ as usual, some random thoughts......

Farm Grrl, I loved your story about the dogs. That was great. I am a confirmed dog person, but I have not had a one since I lost my Rocky almost a year ago. He was such a lover! The kids in the neighborhood would come to the door and ask if Rocky could come out and play. I am just now getting to the point where I am thinking about another dog. Those commericals on TV with Oliver just tug at my heart strings.

Even though I am not the Blog King, I do want to thank Darwin and Dan (a new rock band?) for contributing articles. We need more of this. (Are you listening Grrl and Linda?)

Some folks thought I may have been a little catty via e-mail yesterday. I apologized via e-mail and want to apologize again here. I did not come across as intended. Sorry, hugs and kisses.

My granddaughter will be here in a few hours. I ove having her visit, but this old back can hardly handle it. I told my son yesterday that the only thing that can cure my lower back problem is a new Harley. 2007 Road King. 96 cid. EFI. Red. With a full tank of gas. And a map of the Western United States.

Linda Inks, I have a bit of the problem that you husband has - I have enough hair on my chest to make a rug, but fortunately (or not) for me, I am just as hairy from the neck up. My hair (still pretty dark) looks like an explosion in a haystack factory and I can grow a (white) beard in a week. I have eyebrows that look like caterpillars have taken residence on my forehead.

Oh well...... what the hell was KU doing last night? In my most expert opinion, they should have run right at SIU and ran them off the court with their speed, strength and depth. It looked to me like they were playing the Saluki's game - just like they did with Bradley and Bucknell. The bad thing is SIU exposed KU Achilles Heel and now teams like UCLA and Ohio State can exploit the lack of response from Self.

Anyway, the razor is calling.... I need to shave and get to the grocery before Riley shows up.

We will catch you all later today!!!!

Longhorn, great link in the DU link to the entire John Dean article. I encourage everyone to read it; it isn't too hard to grasp, I do not think; some references therein are somewhat arcane, but IMHO, Mr. Dean does a good job in "translation".

Mr. Dean makes a point with which I wholeheartedly agree: absent real issues of national security and international diplomacy, it is difficult to defend the concept of Executive Privilege. While I wish the SCOTUS opinion in the Nixon tapes case wasn't so ambiguous, clearly there cannot be a generalized claim. Just how far the claim may reach is yet to be determined.

The average citizen usually has no reference point regarding the costs of replacing the equipment being used up in Iraq.
Case in point: A single NG Co. has HETTs (Havy Equipment Transport Truck). You've seen them, they are the 95,000 # (empty) tractor/trailer combo used for hauling artillery pieces, M1A1 Abramms tanks, etc,.
They had 96 that are now falllng apart in Iraq.

About 5 years ago they cost $500,000 per, and they were not armored!

Different units, with different missions, will necessarily have different replacement costs for their unique equipment, but you can see how fast this will add up. Some worn out stuff will be brought back, refurbished and sold to our allies, but what's left represents a hell of a lot money to be spent for replacing all this stuff!

Dot, if you don't want to replace with a new one, you might contact Wichita PC Recycling to see if there's a used and reconditioned one "in stock" that could be obtained at a reasonable cost to replace. I think sending the "late" hard drive on a flaming Viking ship floating down the Ark a reasonable commemeration of its long and faithful service.

Yeah Clark, I know what ya mean about losing a dog. What I neglected to say was Concha suddenly died shortly before my Mom died. One-two punch. She was a Husky/Keeshound cross. If anyone can match THAT for shedding, I'd like to see it. She had beautiful long blong hair with a thick undercoat, and I used to bitch all the time because her blond, almost white hair was ALWAYS all over the damn carpet, my clothes, my couch, etc.

So about a month after she died, I noticed, after many runs of the sweeper, I STILL had a boatload of long white hair on the carpet and couch.

Hehehe. Imagine. I have long white/gray hair... It was ME shedding too! I hate middle age, menopause, being AARP eligible....

.morg,

You might look into SpinRite, it sometimes does a good job at getting data back off a harddrive. So long as the harddrive is trying to spin. If it's making sounds like: spinning up then clicks, then spins up then clicks... generally that's an $800+ fix to get that data back.

If the PC is still good, I'd look into another harddrive(cheaper than the whole computer), if the computer is dead, then I'd look into building my own. Generally get better warranties on the individual parts and none of the 'value added' software. Could use linux to further keep the cost down(Ubuntu is nice), unless you play any games, then I'd stick with Windows XP(Vista is a bit.. well temperamental).

Anyway if you'd like I'd be happy to share some ideas with you.

In days past, I used to be a pretty good computer geek. I am SOOOOOOO old, Danny, that there was a time when I knew DOS commands inside and out.

About seven or eight years ago, I taught my son all I know about computers (took about 7 1/2 minutes) and now he knows more than I could ever hope to do.

In his spare time (non-gaming) he designs web sites and avatars, has done a little graphics work, etc. He and my wallet built the computer that I am working on.

In 2009 (post-Bush) he plans to go into the Air Force to play the real computer games, then go on to Full Sail to earn a degree in design.

Don't tell him I said so, but the little (big) SOB is a hell of a lot smarter than I am.

Full Sail is excellent for computer gaming and design. I have one of my two degrees in computer science, and do web application development. In my spare time I work on my own card game, that is "semi-massive" multiplayer(in so far as I've had 175 people connected at one time playing 14 different games).

However, 2009 my goal is to work with the FBI and just continue to work on my two little games as a hobby as I do now.

Cognitive Dissonance
It must be difficult to be an ID theorist these days. Driving the horse-drawn buggy of intelligent design against the flow of traffic on the six-lane superhighway of scientific research has to be a harrowing experience.

A particular example of the cognitive dissonance required of the ID theorist today is Denyse "Buy My Book" O'Leary. Yesterday, O'Leary wrote, "Materialist neuroscience argues that the mind does not really exist. The mind is merely the functions of the brain or a simulacrum thereof. So you do not really have a mind, let alone a soul or free will."

O'Leary, you see, is an advocate of "non-materialist" neuroscience.

O'Leary cites as evidence that the mind exists independently of the brain an article by Mario Beauregard’s in Progress in Neuroscience, which she claims identifies "areas of progress in non-materialist neuroscience."

In fact, the article does nothing of the sort.

Beauregard writes that results of studies involving neuroimaging "indicate that the mental functions and processes involved in diverse forms of psychotherapy exert a significant influence on brain activity."

In other words, "beliefs and expectations can markedly modulate neurophysiological and neurochemical activity in brain."

This, of course, is not evidence for mind, a term O'Leary uses interchangeably with soul. This after all is what she's after, something of consciousness that lives on after the body dies to sit at the right hand of God.

Years ago, a New York neuroscientist old me, "Going to the symphony will change your brain chemistry."

Materialists have no problem at all -- in fact, it's exactly what one would expect -- with the idea that our memories, emotional states, and beliefs are a both product of, and reflected in, changes in neurophysiological and neurochemical activity in brain.

How else would it be done?

Here's the difficulty for O'Leary, who is flogging her soon to be released book on "non-materialist neuroscience."

An article by Benedict Carey in yesterday's New York Times reports that "damage to an area of the brain behind the forehead, inches behind the eyes, transforms the way people make moral judgments in life-or-death situations."

An injury to the brain, in other words, affects the moral choices a person makes. This, as the article reports, has a tremendous impact on legal cases. "Jurors have reduced sentences based on brain-imaging results showing damage," Carey reports.

So, while O'Leary and her friends in the intelligent design movement continue the search for the soul, neuroscientists are demonstrating that all of our memories, feelings, and beliefs are rooted in the brain. Physical changes in the brain are reflected in what we perceive as mind.

Intelligent design theorists are the Amish -- without the charm, of course -- of modern science. While everyone else is busy doing research that will pave the way to deeper understanding of the human race and the universe we live in, the ID theorists look back with longing at the 10th century.

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple? Geez, I'm old and the memory is going.

.morg, go get yourself an external hard drive. Depending on the size, they aren't all that expensive and will save you a LOT of trouble in the future. You can set your computer to back up to it on a regular schedule. I finally bought myself one, because there are things on my 'puter I CANNOT LOSE. I haven't backed up everything, but I have a few and also back up to a jump drive. Call me paranoid. :)

Speaking of old, AARP will save me some traveling money this summer with discounts on rental cars and hotels. Every little bit helps.

Gster, I dabble in astrology a little, meaning I don't know a whole lot, but I believe a double Aries would mean you are an Aries (sun sign, and what we usually mean when we ask "what's your sign") with Aries rising (Aries ascending). It has to do with the alignment at the minute of your birth and so affects your life. Most people don't have a clue about that. If anybody is interested, I know a website where you can get all that info for free. Interpreting it is what's difficult, but I do have some books.

I don't like to cut and paste stuff from the other blog, but this is what Hank Price said in his post referred to above. Also, I am not getting Hank's characteristic insult that accompanies his "nice" remarks - anyone want to translate for me?

"Is it just me, or did we lose the 'good' liberals? I mean the ones that could occasionally come up with an original thought.

"No, my friends, I think I'm finally starting to feel the damning effects of the boycott! As silly as it is, the boycott has left us with the predominately stupid libs.

"'It's time to bring back the Fairness doctrine. People need protection from their own stupidity in listening to that troglodyte.'

"Is there a more egotistical, innane, statement concerning Rush? I don't think so. I need protection from Rush? And who should I trust to determine fairness?

"Ben Huie, come back Ben. I miss ya. Ben is active in the communitie and volunteers time to causes he believes in. He donates money to charities that make Wichita a better place to live.

"The farm girl, Come back darling! All you have to do with the farm girl is just ignore her when she is going after her 'homophobe' of the day. She's an entrepenuer. She's active in politics, ie., she participates in all levels of the process other than just whining. She brings a knowlegeble viewpoint to the discussion.

"Steven Davis, come back Darwin's Desciple! Good man. Wrong most of the time on evolution, but brings more than the party line and cliches to the discussion.

"XXX, if you want to pick a fight in a biker bar, I suggest you have XXX on your side! Hasn't been posting much lately (he's in love!) but still he ussually brought more to the discussion than childish name calling.

"RD, a delightful lady! Brought a little class to any discussion. Every now and then, unlike the libs that are left, I think she even understood a point I was trying to make! Come back darling, we all miss you!

"Mary Caruso? Don't miss her! She's my neighbor and she'll let me make my own bubbles in her hot tub any time!

"mrcontroversy? Very knowlegeble and well spoken on local politics. A very real loss to the BLOG. Never participated in personnal attacks. Wrong a lot, but good man, good character.

"Tracy? OK, I miss ya a little. Don't understand why you get so involved in a Wichita BLOG, but all-in-all a plus.

"lindainks, pretty enough to be a republican! Definitly miss her and Political Mom! Good to get the Salina input now and then. Come back girls, we'll be good! Promise.

"Julie, she's been busy with her new addition but I miss her too. Hopefully she and Mountain Man will come to the boy's welcome home party in a month or two. The boy likes and respects them a lot!

"Clark? I don't miss you that much! But its hard to have any animous toward a fellow food and dog lover! (I'll email you privately when I find out when they are showing Goldens next month).

"Now if I didn't mention your name, it either was or wasn't intentional! I'm suppose to be cleaning the 'dog room' and I'm running out of time. But, just as a general statement, because of the libs you boycotters left us with, I think the boycott has increased the IQ of both BLOGS!"

I do not know what to say, Linda Inks. The only thing I can think of at this point is the John Kerry campaign from 2004. He allowed himself to be called a coward, a traitor, a wimp, a kept man, a flip flopper and a liar, all the while allowing Bush to call himself a war hero and a man of integrity.

I would have to ask: why is the left so willing to play nice guy to the right's hitman?

I do not understand the willingness of the left to try to make nice with the right, while the right questions our very right to exist.

We will continue to lose this battle as long as we are willing to give up everytime the right challenges our patriotism, our loyalty, our morals, our citizenship and our sanity.

For me, the fight has just begun.

It will happen. Thank you. I should say, "This is our country...", but that would piss off our Woody Guthrie scholar, WSC. Hey man, do you know his music mcuh?

Hang tough, friends...

WS,

Count me in for staying here, if you want to continue to have me here and my most conservative view on life. ;) I just don't much care, as others have stated, for nic switching, flamethrowing, name-calling, can't stick to the topic people. Not saying that doesn't happen here, but it does seem to happen less.

Morning.
Dan, I've got relatives in Longmont and Ft. Collins.
It's really nice in the spring.

Speaking of basketball and North Carolina:
Bill Guthridge
(born July 27, 1937 in Parsons, Kansas)
is a retired American basketball coach. He gained notoriety after serving for 30 years as Smith's assistant. He coached the Tar Heels for three seasons before retiring in 2000.
Guthridge has a school named for his family here in Parsons. Several years ago he came home for his momma's funeral. Lot's of rubbernecking b-ball fans at the funeral.
Go KU.

Glad you made it safely, Danny.

Have you already told us when the baby is due? I forgot if you did. And even if you tell me again (please) I might ask again. One of those things about aging you will learn... well, as you age. lol

KU is on again today!

VT, I'm glad to know you will have some time with your daughter. You have every right to be proud of both your daughters -- they sound like wonderful young women! Will you have time to collect her at the airport and get to a television in time for the start of the game!? Guess her arrival would be MOST important, but it is KU in the elite eight.

I don't like the posturing and complaining and taking sides that seems to be acceptable in all walks of life but especially politics. I know how strongly I feel the troops should be home from Iraq and people who have an opposite opinion must feel just as strongly. Now if we could figure how to understand and accept differing opinions along the path to compromise. On the subject of Iraq (for me) there can be no understanding until there is some truth telling. I feel I have been mislead, lied to and now trust nothing this administration says. When they are (finally) asked to be accountable, to explain, they fight tooth and nail -- seems to be little possibility of compromise under these conditions.

Must get many things done so my late afternoon and evening is FREE to enjoy. Stay dry! Looks like we could be in for more wet weather.

Random early afternoon thoughts.........

Hey Danny, glad you made it CO safely. I remember when my second ex-wife was preggers with my son. We lived in CO and traveled back to KS several times. I know the "rest stop drill." Good luck to you both.

...... and yes, you are welcome here.

Apophis, it's good to see you over here. Please stay and join our merry band of misfits.

Trace, you are right about the commercials messing with KU's program. One real advantage that KU has is that they don't have just one go to guy - they can play eight. I have not seen any other team in the Tourney that is anywhere near that deep. The frequent interruptions allow teams with less depth to negate that advantage.

Ah, SD! Yes, I do love Woody Guthrie. I truly enjoy the folk history of America. The song means a lot to me. I have nothing against Mellencamp - actually I like his music a lot - but I really, really hate the commercialization of music. I get really ticked when I hear a classic rock or soul song being used to sell credit cards or Carribean cruises. That is just one of my many pet peeves.

These are the last two verses of "This Land" as written by Woddy Guthrie.

In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.

If y'all ever get a chance, read Woody Guthrie: A Life by Joe Klein. There is a copy at the Downtown Library. Not only is it a great story of a man and musician, but it gives great insight into life during the Depression.

.... anyway, this is getting a bit long, so I'll shut up for now!!!!

Be good or don't get caught, friends!!!!

Uh, ummm.....these may not be intelectual lyrics.
But this is a FUN song.

Take me riding in the car, car;
Take me riding in the car, car;
Take you riding in the car, car;
I'll take you riding in my car.

Click clack, open up the door, girls;
Click clack, open up the door, boys;
Front door, back door, clickety clack,
Take you riding in my car.

Climb, climb, rattle on the front seat;
Spree I spraddle on the backseat;
Turn my key, step on my starter,
Take you riding in my car.

Engine it goes boom, boom;
Engine it goes boom, boom;
Front seat, backseat, boys and girls,
Take you riding in my car.

Trees and the houses walk along;
Trees and the houses walk along;
Truck and a car and a garbage can,
Take you riding in my car.

Ships and the little boars chug along;
Ships and the little boats chug along;
Boom buhbuh boom boom boom buh boom,
Take you riding in my car.

I'm a gonna send you home again;
I'm a gonna send you home again;
Boom, boom, buhbuh boom, rolling home,
Take you riding in my car.

I'm a gonna let You blow the horn;
I'm a gonna let you blow the horn;
A oorah, a oorah, a oogah, oogah,
I'll take you riding in my car.

I believe he wrote this for Arlo (Alice's friend) when he was a young boy.
Have a great weekend.

Well, what intelligent and polite discourse here! heheheheheeh. Seriously!

Funny Linda and Tracy and others, I was just having this ARGUMENT with my girlfriend :)!!!! **&^%$#@*

There is a whole lot going on in the world with bipartisan and diversity issues. IMHO, with my experience in a group called Landmark Education, most of this boils down to making others right and wrong, and making ourselves right or wrong. Stay with me here. This is the result of YEARS and THOUSANDS of dollars of study, and I'm gonna try to boil it down to a freakin' BLOG post. So stick with me here.

One of my frustrations with MOST, not all on the right, and SOME, not all of the left, is the inability to admit when one has been incorrect. We have much less charge on the word "correct" than we do on "right" and "wrong". SO... especially our more tech and scientific types, have no problem saying someone or something is incorrect. That deals with facts, and "facts" are not right or wrong in the traditional sense. They are what they are. PEOPLE can be labeled right or wrong and they get offended when called wrong in a sense that has an emotional charge, and they dont get offended being called incorrect, because that doesnt mean they are "wrong". Get it? I know that was an inartful explanation but we dont have years here :)

SO... what I personally find most frustration and anger making are people who REFUSE to admit their postition on something is based on information that is not correct. WTF? For GOD'S sake, when you have been proven incorrect, or "wrong" if you will, PHUCKING ADMIT IT!!!!! IT'S NOT THAT HARD!!!!!!

Some of us do it regularly. If you prove me incorrect, I dont get pissed, I say, yeah, I was wrong, and move the hell ON! I've seen Tracy do that many times. I have seen others do it many times. But there are some, on the right and left, who REFUSE to admit when they are wrong.

I'm not gonna spend anymore bandwidth here talking about the distinction between incorrect and wrong. And yes, it is a distinction WITH a difference. I am really tired of the new meme that "X" is a distinction without a different. Phuck you. If there is a distinction, there is a difference. Just because you dont agree with or want to recognize the difference doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

But I digress.... :)

Anyway, when one of these "wrong deniers" (hereinafter refered to as WDs) on the right or the left gets proven wrong and then denies it two things happen. One is that the person who "proved" them incorrect or wrong, gets rightfully pissed that the WD doesnt see it. So they argue harder and more forcefully. They now have a need to be acknowedged as correct or even more importantly "right".

The other thing is, when proven incorrect, a WD is now backed into an ever narrowing corner. Shit, he or she says, they are "right" and I am now "wrong" with all the charge associated. One of the long discussions in Landmark is about domination. Humans are mostly "run" either by their need to dominate someone or to avoid being dominated by someone else.

So now, the WD CANT admit to being incorrect 'cause that would mean they were "wrong" and they would be in danger of both BEING dominated and LOSING their own domination. So they fight hard and faster and dirtier and dirtier and go to ever more ridiculous lengths to argue that they are not "wrong".

Shit. That makes everyone insane, and we are all off to the races to prove each other right or wrong and to either dominate the "other" or escape domination FROM the "other".

The end game is that there is no bottom to the pit humans will go to in order to be perceived as "right" or "wrong".

That is why I like hanging with this particular group of bloggers on the WV. Call us the libs, call us the refugees call us the fisters or the freedom lovers. Hell I dont care if you call me a striped ass ape. I like hanging with this group because MOST of us dont have a big domination thing or a big "right" or "wrong" thing.

Since we've moved here, we are not competing for domination of the "Right" or resisting their efforts to make us "Wrong". We dont have to make "them" WRONG either. We can just talk, because no one here will try to dominate us or make us look like an ass to suit THEIR need for domination.

Damn, NOW y'all owe the doc five cents. heheheheeheh

I know that may not make sense to some. I'm ok with that. It will make sense to others. I'm ok with that too. I dont really give a rat's ass what ANYONE thinks of this post, and why I post as I do. I dont fear the domination of others. Hell, I experienced it to the MAX in April of '05. It didnt kill me, even if it profoundly changed my life for the worse.

Conversely, I dont need to dominate others. I know what it is like to live under domination, that I define as "tyranny of the majority". I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Not christians or republicans or pasty white rich guys. :) Being the dominator is not satisfying either. No more so than BEING dominated is.

So, I intend to hang here 'cause I dont have to prove anything and neither does anyone else. If someone here disputes, disagrees, or HATES what I say, they are free to express that and I know they wont be after me with torches and pitchforks. THAT is why I decided to continue posting here, and why I dont even READ the WE blog anymore.

Here, in "our little treehouse" as someone said with contempt and scorn, we can explore ideas, admit when we are wrong, congratulate each other when we are right, and we can post without fear of domination or the burden of trying to dominate others. I dont see that need among the posters here.

And THAT, for you Landmarkies, is a possibility I can live into. Right here on the WV. heheheh.

Good rant, Grrl, a little long winded (wink!) but good regardless. I like to think that I am capable of admitting I am wrong, having had a lot of practice. I do like the more relaxed environment on this Blog and I am glad to see some more folks joining us.

You HAVE to visit WE Blog today, Grrl!!!! GSheridan is offering her opinion that she misses YOU. It's a funny read. She says (don't be killing the messenger!) that the reason you two locked horns so often is because the two of you are SO ALIKE.

Anyway, when I post on any blog, I like to have my facts in order. In fact, I try to avoid non-factual conversation. If I am not sure of my information, I will express that as such. I find that they WE Blog in particular is the home of made up facts. I have to admit that most of my flame throwing was at the posters that repeated or made up "truthiness." At times, I was a bad boy when I insisted that the offenders admit their errors.

Anyway, I am happy to be here and I hope all of you stay with us in our little treehouse.

Apophis, you did well on that thread. I dont even think some of the know what a poll tax is. Durden wants to argue about the AMOUNT of the poll tax. When SCOTUS has declared ANY poll tax to be disenfranchising.

I protest showing a birth certificate 'cause I am terminally disorganized and lose things constantly. Well, I dont actually lose them but I am "challenged" at finding things when I need them. So... requiring me to show something other than a DL. which of course I always carry, would contitute the effective disenfranchisement tof the terminally unorganized.

Of course, the American Society for the Advancement of the Terminally Unorganized has a little trouble holding regular meetings....

Clark, yeah, I dont get it either. I dont get why they think so much about what we do in bed. I sure as hell dont think about what y'all do! And I see gay people being put in the same position our black friends were in. We have to be twice as good at EVERYTHING to be accepted as equal. That puts lots of pressure on our relationships. Because now, when WE break up, the wingnuts can point to us and say "see? They (pick one) cant commit to marriage, are bad for children, set a bad example in our community..." blah blah blah.

Of course you know I refuse to submit to such pressure. Hell, I've been used by parents as a bad example for over 40 years. heheheheheeheeh

What really ticks me off about the homophobes it the attitude that gays and lesbians CHOOSE that orientation. I guess that is the only way that they can justify their irrational hatred.

I can assure you that I am not capable of choosing to be gay. Given the oppotunity, I know that I would not be able to develop the necessary "attitude" for the circumstance.

As for what other people do in bed? I sure as Hell don't want to know what STRAIGHT people do between the sheets, nontheless gays and lesbians.

Hee hee Clark!! I resent the whole choice vs biology thing. For me? It's both. I was born this way and NOW I choose it also. If someone said they had a pill that would turn me straight, I wouldnt take it. I like who I am and I like most of the folks in my gay communities. I wouldnt change them either.

Being gay isnt a problem. It's how OTHER folks treat us that becomes a problem. In the deaf community, there was lots of controversy about cochlear implants? I cant spell worth a damn.

Some parents wanted their children to have them so they wouldnt be deaf, but many in the deaf community protested that being deaf wasnt a problem to be cured. They have great lives and many consider being deaf almost a privledge. Who are we to say that their lives would be diminished by being deaf? But we can sure make our world more friendly so as not to impede them from having great deaf lives.

That is another inartful explanation. I never understood that and thought, hell, if someone could BE hearing, life would be so much easier if not better. Who wouldnt want to be hearing?

Now, I can bet straight people are saying the same thing. "Hell if someone could BE straight, life would be so much easier if not better. Who wouldnt want to be straight?"

I would deeply resent the implication that life is inherently better for straight people. Now I see why deaf people feel that way too.

Self-ish. They need a new Coach. They had the horses but the jockey was lacking. It's that simple.

With any number of other coaches, KU would be headed for the Final Four.

Now I am down to having to root for UNC.

LH, I think maybe noon is used if there isn't a birth time, but I'll check.

Just curious, but what state were you born in? Am I confused, or did you mention you were adopted? It's late, and we've been playing the new Scene It game, so my brain is tired. BTW, the females creamed the guys in both games played. *grin*

I'm truly bummed about yesterday's game. I will wait until next year, or the next or however many years it takes and all the while still be a KU fan -- have been for many years and have enjoyed many great games, many great successes along with the infrequent disappointing and sad games. UCLA was better on offense, their shots actually went in the basket. Too bad for that great group of players and too bad for the fans who would have loved to see them play another game.

Early evening random thoughts................

Went out to Lowes (westside) today to price windows and other supplies for my daughter's house repairs. Man, it was beautiful day and the place was packed. Seems like Wichita has spring fever.

Really disappointed in last nights game. I have to admit that I turned it off half way through the second half. Christ, I am a non-native and I was cranky about it. I wonder how the alumni took it. I know that I am in the minority, but I think Self has to go.

Here's a headline for you...........

GOP’s Hagel calls Bush impeachment an option.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17786158/

Wow! I will say this much, the man has BALLS! It is good to see a Senator stand up to Bush, especially one from the GOP.

Not too much action on WV Blog today - I guess even bloggers have spring fever!

Anyway, UNC and G'Town are down to five to go with UNC up by five and G-Town going to the free throw line...............

We'll catch y'all later.

I'm glad you rooted for UNC! Their coach once disappointed me badly and fell out of favor. And, I didn't want KU to be the only one seed not to make the final four. That actually feels a little better now. Boy, there must be something wrong with my thinker if any of that makes sense.

Before I came to Kansas, I lived in western North Carolina in the early Eighties.......... Hence the affection for UNC. If you think KU fans are nuts about their team, you would be amazed by B'Ball fans in Carolina. They are truly fan-atics.

Hi Guys, wish you were here with me enjoying this beautiful sunset and still evening. Everything turned emerald green overnight, and it was 75 or so today.

Hi Pre! Yes, I was adopted, hence the no time birth certificates. I have both, the original with my birth name and the second one with my adopted name and my Mom and Dad listed as parents. But neither has a birth time. I was born in Topeka at Stormont-Vail and adopted through Lutheran Social Services in Winfield. It has since closed, but LSS in Wichita had my records when last I checked... over twenty years ago!

Like I said, I could find more info and probably even find my birthmother, but for a variety of reasons, I have not done so. Have you? You can email me if you dont want to talk about it here.

I can recommend a great book on the subject. It is called The Adoption Triangle by Betty Jean Lifton. It examines the whole adoption "dance" from each of the perspectives of the child or adult child of adoption, the birth parents, and the adoptive parents. It is just a great read and should be mandatory for all involved in the adoption triangle.

Do any of you all wonder why the republicans and the religious right and the neocons just go INSANE about global warming? They smear the experts, believe in capitalism uber alles, and just generally go sideways about the issue. I have wondered the same, and saw this today. Thought you might like the read.

LH, yes, I have contacted my b-mother...almost 23 years ago. Long story, but she wasn't interested in continuing any kind of communication, probably because she had teenagers at the time and, of course, they knew nothing about it. (I have 2 half-brothers and 1 half-sister.) I did connect with her brother, and he and his wife gave me a lot of information and a few pictures. They were both VERY nice, but she passed away not long after that, and I haven't gotten back in touch with my "uncle". However, no one will tell me my b-father's name. They said he wasn't a nice guy. LOL Like I care. Medical info would be nice, and at least I have some. Certainly better than what was included with adoption papers back then. Those said for each of them: Health - Good. Yippee skippee.

You're probably like me and don't think about it much. Most that I've known have had good experiences. I was one of the minority who didn't. No big deal. I'm a big girl now. *grin*

Rain this weekend. No garden work today :( but we needed the rain :) I REFUSE to clean more chicken coops!!! Guess I'll do laundry and sleep :) And I will only talk with virtual humans. Big :)

Clark, Linda, and others, I'm sorry about KU not moving on this year. I know you all are disappointed. I have leftover fried chicken and tater salad if it would make any of you feel better!

Didn't miss the KU-UCLA game, as the younger's flight didn't arrive until ~9:00 p.m.; disappointing, to be sure. Oh, well, there's always next year (spoken as a true Cubs fan). Linda, you see why I didn't respond to your query about UCLA made Friday; I was concerned, but unable to fully articulate why.

From the younger, learned there are actually FIVE seasons in Maine: Winter, Mud, Spring, Summer and Fall. Mud is descriptive of a three week period when it warms enough to melt all the snow, etc., and the dirt becomes saturated with the melt water; throw on some rain, and according to her, everything is mud for the full time. Spring arrives thereafter with nice days, no rain, sun, and everything dries. She is, BTW, glorying in the warmth here; apparently, Feb. and March were very cold, and she's celebrating the ability to go outside without multiple layers, snow boots, etc.

Yes, you read that right. The ferry was full going to the airport and we almost got left. I was saying, "great! let's stay!" but alas we had to come back.

Don't know about you, but I'm thinking we were wasting a lot of time over on the WEBlog. You want to make a change? A real change?

Campaign for candidates. Grassroots campaigning works. Just ask Raj Goyle, Nancy Boyda, and Gwen Welshiemer.

Nice catch on the "new" Tyler Durden, Longhorn. This is to be expected. When JM-Con can't rattle our cages, he has to rattle theirs . . .

Thanks wsc for making it easy for me to read the reasons for opposing what is a fact. This from the article,

"...a tiny handful of renegade scientists who reject the overwhelming professional consensus,"

pretty well sums up their position on all areas of science.

But then, don't I remember that "their" earth is very young? Guess they are "evolving" and learning at a much slower rate because they're much newer, huh!? Still in the baby step stages while others are MUCH more advanced.

Yes, VT, there will be another year. And always hope! Now, (as only my perverted fanatic mind could do) I'm rooting for UCLA to be national champs so we were beaten by the ultimate champs. I understand why you didn't want to put your concerns down in writing! One thing for sure is KU was beaten by a better team that day, that game. Suppose if we act really pouty and sad for awhile longer we can really get some of that consolation chicken and tater salad!?

Gster, I think AG AG will have to be sacrificed. Might be after his testimony of April 19th but not too much longer.
