This will be my only post over here.
God knows not everyone is a genius at WE blog. Certainly I've written things and then wondered why I said what I said. There are those who are impressive writers and those who are not; those I answer and those I ignore; those who I agree with and those who I don't. And I suppose we are all hypocrits from time to time (reminds me of the line from a preacher friend; when someone points out that the church is full of hypocrits, he simply responds that we always have room for one more). Human beings are amazingly good at truly believing one thing and doing another.
But the posters at WE are, as a group, hands down better than the self-rightous group of assholes (excuse my French) over here, working their arms out of socket patting themselves on the back. There is diversity of opinion and personality there; here, there is only the echo-chamber as this boycott blog circles its way, ever smaller, down the drain, self-congratulating and mouthing the DU line. There, differing opinions are exchanged, sometimes endlessly and seemingly pointlessly and often more vociferiously than I would like. I try (and sometimes fail) to say on a blog only things I would say face to face in a public forum; some see the relative anonymity of a blog as license to say anything. I've also tried to reign that in, with only limited success. It's probably a lost cause. I'm ultimately responsible only for me. As all of us are responsible, ultimately, only for ourselves.
However, I will gladly accept the annoyance of the occasional nic-switch or troll to get real diversity, something entirely lacking here. This group simply doesn't tolerate dissenting opinion.
WS, I don't know if you've posted over there as the "nic-switcher" or not. I don't have the computer knowledge to find out (my eyes glaze over at talk of IP addresses and packets), and I frankly don't care. But you certainly have a lot of GALL to accuse others of the sin of hypocricy. You're a bright guy (though I think you have anger control issues). I'D CHALLENGE YOU to step back and read your own posts, here and at the old blot. Read your immediate reaction when Paul dropped in here a few days ago, with a friendly hello. Instant nastiness. Tell me that you'd like to exchange ideas with someone like that. Don't tell me that someone else started it; that excuse doesn't fly, I'm sure, with your kids, and shouldn't with you either.
Yea, it's bad. You have issues, sir.
The lot of you; how quickly you threw JR under the bus. You are a shameful group. Do you really think that this is your private playground, and others need your 'permission' to post? You appear to be upset that WE blog wasn't that private echo chamber, so you've attempted to set up your own.
Vaughn; you can certainly post where you like. I've consistently respected your analytical skills and your considered opinion, even when we disagree. But please don't imagine that you can post over there as normal and then come over here and wallow in the "holier than thou" routine. Being an honest broker means being an honest broker. You can't be all things to both "sides."
Folks, I'd rather "laugh with the sinners whan cry with the saints." And saints you ain't; you just imagine yourselves to be. None are so foolish as those who fool themselves.
There are times, it appears, when subtracting means gaining. For WE blog, it turns out this is one of those times. And that's too bad; it didn't have to be that way.
Enjoy your private party; it's a small and incestuous one.
Goodnight. And goodbye.

Second of all, I'm not an asshole. The reason I started Wichita Voice is because I didn't and still don't feel the Eagle (or most other media outlets) paint a full picture of what's really going on in the world, let alone Wichita. Everyone writes articles or covers stories for their SHOCK VALUE, not for their relevance. (How long were we subjected to the Anna Nicole drivel?)
By all means, come over and post on Wichita Voice; the area is much more secure, the articles are submitted by YOU, and the conversation is focused on what you want to talk about.

Hee hee hee hee. I guess GOD almighty has spoken and we have been properly chastised. GMC huffs off of the WE Blog in a self righteous snit every so often when the "children" dont mind him. He isnt even ON this blog and he tries the "you all are beneath contempt, I'm leaving" ploy.
It must really piss him off that he has no control over us here. And I see he has no control over the trolls and weasels over there. He's even turning on Vaughn now. And Vaughn really seemed to care about what GMC said. Sounds to me like GMC is drawing the proverbial line in the sand, that if we want HIM to play, we cant post in both places. So Vaughn, I guess you have your choice as laid out by GMC.
Pot, meet Kettle.
Here's a little clue for you GMC. We dont care if you or anyone else reads here. We dont care what you think. You are welcome to post here if you like. If you dont like, dont post. We didnt invite you and we didnt come looking for you. As someone else here said, it never occurs to you that the trolls just like to troll, and since they are prevented from doing so here, they are trolling the WE. But of course, it is so much easier to blame the evil WV bloggers. Take a look in the mirror GMC.
Oh, and one more thing? Buh-bye. I think I've typed that to you a hundred times. You'll be back.

This is a request of my fellow bloggers. I'm asking PLEASE...
Let the above statement stand AS IS. Everyone should be allowed to post wherever they choose and if not abusive each of us can scroll over or not, but we don't have to acknowledge every post or every poster.
I know some of you are capable of reading over there and not getting upset. I am NOT one of those. So about a week (or so) ago I just stopped visiting the site that gets me upset. But sometimes some of you and others have brought that place here. The more it happens the closer to "being there" it feels. I don't want ANY rules outside common courtesy to apply here. But I am asking us not to turn this place into a figurative boxing ring, please. We have so many things to talk about, cuss and discuss, laugh about that I don’t see any reason we need to post about people we don't want to associate with. If we do want to associate with them let's do it openly and honestly.
What does this posters criticism of us or where we post really mean? All it means to me is he thinks about us. I'm moving on and adding nothing more, I hope all of us can give it no more attention than it deserves -- a post by a poster, one opinion we can heed or not.

Dubya, thanks again for hosting this blog. I guess that little pissy pants foot stomping should tell you why we left. Thanks again for all your hard work. Some of us here will leave and go running back for the security of the known enemy.
Some of us here will stay and help you make this an astounding blog of great success. Count me in with the latter. When this is over, I may post on water issues over there, especially since it pisses off little miss homophobe. But I consider the WV my home blog. Not because I needed a place to go. God knows there are plenty of blogs in the world to post on or comment on.
Nope. I'm staying here because I like the people, I like the atmosphere, and I especially like the hosts. (Giant sucking up sound here!) I like the topics we have to discuss. I like the non-disruptive atmosphere. I like the collegial disagreements.
And did I mention that I like the hosts? :)
Heheheheheh. Oh, and one more thing.
I dont care how small this blog gets or how big the WE blog gets. Big isnt better. Just look at freeperville or townhall or worldnewsdaily or any of the other wingnut sites. I dont have any illusion that those at the WE blog think they are changing the world, or at least Wichita.
I guess if you have never seen your words in print, it fills some with a sense of importance, like they matter, to post on a blog hosted by a big newspaper. If they think they are changing hearts and minds over there, I'd say they are succeeding about as well as the preznit' war did in changing the hearts and minds of the iraqis.
It didnt. It hasnt. It wont.
So puff yer chest and stomp yer feet over there GMC. You just make yourself a more laughable school marm since it is clear, you aint happy there, and you wont be happy here.
Again, buh-bye.

Hey Clark!
Went to Tommy's Saturday night, prime rib! MMMM Good!
I've got the breed count and show times for the Goldens.
Over 70 Goldens are entered, they show in ring 9 all three days; Fri 1:40, Sat 1:20 and Sun 12:20.
I'm facilities manager, so if you show up go to the office and they can get me on the radio if you want to meet!
If anyone else wants to know when their favorite breed shows:

First of all Dubya,
Thanks for the blog and the forum. It's a nice place to hang out.
I blog for entertainment.
The WE blog for me became irritating. If I want to be annoyed I will sit in traffic on a hot day with no ac listening to gangster rap.
So to me there's nothing left to do other than make fun of it.
How about Wichita Voice T-Shirts ...could say Wichita Voice the other blog meat...or I threw JR under the bus... any ideas?

Sorry Linda, I already peed back before I read your post :) Some of us here have a history with GMC. We have left him in peace to wallow in the quiet intellectualism of the WEBlog. He can of course post here. Paul can of course post here. But please, dont come over here and BAIT us and then expect us to not respond.
I agree with DD. He has been getting more and more beligerant and surly. I do believe he has missed us so much he needed to come over here and unload.
I hope it makes him feel better and that he can go on with his day. Heheheh. He signed it goodnight. Was he up thinking about it all night? 'Cause I sure dont ever think about him.
DD, maybe now is the time to post your response we talked about? I think you could refute the lies over there by posting it over here. Whatever you think buddy.

lh, You know me well enough to understand I was not trying to set any rules for anyone, just let you know how I feel. IF that place comes into being here I will leave. It has nothing to do with who posts here and who doesn't, it has to do with how we handle ourselves.
Why in the world would we need to think someone is less than someone else becaue of their opinions? People make themselves less by their actions. And I think words on a blog are the same as actions. Attack all the ideas and opinions you differ with, but not the person who holds them. Usually people take care of leaving the correct impression of themselves without another's help. Here, we know if the post bears the poster's name that is who made it! AND we conduct ourselves in an acceptble way and police our own. This is a good place and those that think differently shouldn't visit.

My oldest is looking for a Shibu, so I think going to the show would be good for her. She had to give up her Husky, but still has and will keep her Welsh Corgi. The Husky kept digging under the fence, in spite of an all out attempt to keep her from it. We can't have her escaping on a daily basis. Everybody works and has no way to go retrieve a dog from the good people who find her and call to say we have.
Anyway, thanks. I'm not able to contact you through the email addy I have.

I think they're getting lonely over there. The new "libs" don't seem to take any crap from them. Well, except for whomever the nic switcher is. It's hard to argue with intelligent and calm comments. Much easier to hit back with insults. And many of us are guilty of that.
I read GMC70's same post over there, before seeing it here. Apparently he decided it was worth jumping through hoops to post it here. Okay, good for him. But I notice he and most others don't stay around to discuss their concerns. More fun to post and run.
Oh well.

Paul, you just came here to yank our chains. You did it, you got the response you were seeking, and you went back to the WEBlog and trashed us.
WTF did you expect? Why dont you post your comments here that called me out and baited me? I didnt come looking for you, remember? You came here and specifically asked for me, insulted me, and called me out.
What? You dont know me? You dont know what I think of you, what kind of response that calling out would elicit? Why the hell did you come here and call me out if you didnt want to get flamed?
Jesus WEPT! All the reich wing wanted was for me to leave the WEBLog. I left. I'm here. Then Paul comes looking for me? He wants an asswhipping? Why? So he can go to the weblog and whine because the mean old fetus killing lefties flamed him?
Well, ya got what you wanted. If you dont like our attitudes or our postings here, you can stay over at lonely blog. We did NOT seek you out. You can stay and post to your hearts content. But dont bait us, then get the expected flame, then go whining back to the reich wing at weblog. And then come whining back here posting comments out of context.
Post yer own comments first and then my responses.
What a buncha transparent babies.

I know you and Clark have been on your best behavior and you both have behaved very well! Clark stuck up for me and I won't ever forget that. It was an open taunt to a fight no matter what the person tries to turn it into after the fact. We all see what is and isn't. It's even easier to see who can or cannot be trusted. That has NOTHING to do with their opinions on any topics. I believe that you don't like fighting, but wish I could be a LOT more like you when a fight is needed. I'm a weaker sister than I want to be.

Funny, I dont think it was the WV posters who threw JR under the bus. You all have trashed him and insulted him, as he feared, since the day we left.
Example? "I think the WV got the best and brightest Libs, so there isn?t much debate over at WE anymore"
Uh no, it's hard for JR to debate when you all are circling him like a pack of hungry hienas. JR ASKED to be removed from our email list. We did NOT throw him under the bus. I dont remember one of us bagging on him for staying. Or Ben. Or Vaughn, or anyone who posted in both places.
I was disappointed that it appeared as though one or more of us was posting under assumed and ever changing nics. I see now that it was probably golfnut or GS or fleetie just trying to drum up some interest over there.
I agree with Pre. It must indeed be boring and lonely over there to prompt the reich wing to troll themselves for post count and a straw man to beat, and then blame it on us.
What would that be? About a, um, third grade strategy?

Morning, all; see I'm the center of some controversy this morning. Well, not the first time and won't be the last, I'm sure.
Appreciate the kind words from several of you; and, I'll likely keep on keepin' on as I have. Work beckons, and I'm likely to be a rare bird around here and other places for the rest of the week. I'll be by when I've some time and (hopefully) something worth adding to the discussions.

LH,
I came here to WV to listen to and interact with friends. Friends being used in the sense of discussion, conversation, whatever you want to call it.
I’ll go back and find my posts in a second. I didn’t call you out or insult you. If saying you are a –passioned?—poster is an insult, then my apologies. Yeah I did ask about you. Your posts attract a lot of attention. Is that wrong? Is that persecuting you?
Who asked you to leave the WE blog? Where did I trash you on the WE blog after posting here?

I think we all want the same thing: a place to discuss and debate. No one wants to get angry, no one WANTS to be put on the defensive.
Regardless of the cause/effect, can we all just take it down to a dull-roar?

I don't appreciate someone being able to post without a name/nic. How does that work? Of course, the poster I'm talking about posts ALL kinds of ways -- as Paul with OR without the little sky pic. Without a name/nic but with the pic...
Never mind about how that works. Few want to post except with their nic and chosen pic. We'll know what is and isn't without knowing more.

My two cents...
Everyone got started on the wrong foot. I'm positive there are some here who think I'm what they despise most, such is life I deal with it. I know for sure of one here who can vouch otherwise to the best of their ability. I'll leave it at that.
My understanding of the matter is:
1. LH was ridiculed on the other blog, and as such some people weren't sticking to the issue(s) being discussed.
2. Then someone comes here and asks specifically for her. Granted, in the words I've read nothing terribly bad. However, I can see it raising flags and suspicion.
3. Some as a result of those flags became defensive. Right or wrong it happened.
4. Leads to today.
/emote sarcasm I love soap operas
Ok, no really, maybe if all just take a deep breath, step back, leave each other alone and talk about issues and only issues, then yeah, we'll find there are disagreements and agreements on things.
Maybe we won't find the best way to get to closure, but certainly we'll find something that we'll agree to disagree or maybe find some common middle ground.

Yeah paul. We see how you didnt come here and call me out and insult me. Somehow, these two posts kinda negate the false fawning.
I'd like to say I'm outa here, but then, I think that is what the webloggers want. To disrupt us, divide us, and then ridicule us. Stir us up then post our words over at weblog.
Like Tracy would say, "pitiful. Just pitiful".
Go poop in yer own nest and then wallow in it. We dont do that here. We like our "treehouse" clean. Without troll poop.

If this is what we're going to do--accept posts the were posted from over there, while they take our posts to post there--I think I'll go find something better and less juvenile to do. I spend every day with 3 kids who are 5 and under. I sometimes think they have more class than some grownups.
Yeah, I'm bitchy. I get that way when I'm sick. But this won't last for long, thank goodness.

Thanks Mary for the kind words. You know I have real affection and HUGE respect for you, even if we dont agree on some issues.
GS comparing herself to me? heheheheheh. Ewwwwwww. I always did think she kinda had a crush on me the way she fixated and followed me and posted to me.
I guess without someone to trash, her posts just arent that interesting. Copy Rush, paste, rinse, and repeat. Could it be? Paraphrasing Sandra Bernhardt, "without us, they are nothing"? heheheheh.
They have been projecting THEIR problems and THEIR incivility on us for a long time. I am still mystified as to why I am such an object of their attention, even when I am not there. They should just be dancing 'cause I'm gone, not whining about what we post here :)
It cracks me up, that they think we never disagree. We do. Hell, I can think of THOUSANDS of things we do not agree upon. And we say so.
And if we dont have many posts from many different posters here, could it be that we arent wasting bandwidth responding to trolls and flames here? I actually think that the nice weather, spring, and your very astute point about breaking the habit of sitting at the computer instead of working.
Many of us have commented on how productive we have been since leaving the We blog. Part of that is breaking the habit, but since it hasnt been 21 days, I dont think that's it. I think we are just generally happier, like Linda said, when we are not exposed on a daily basis to that kind of venom. I think we are not posting as much here due to that new found productivity :)
I second the motion for a meetup. But personally? I'd like it to be discussed in an email. I dont want to attend if the trollers are gonna come. No fried chicken for them :( heheheheheheheeheheheheheheheh!
But please, let's invite Jed. He loves my cooking :)

If Dubya does post the thread maybe we can use it to plan without dates and use email to set date/time. I think it would be easier if we had a thread for posting who was gonna bring what (that way I don't have to keep track of 25 different emails about who's bringing what.

You guys can use the tools InstanSpot already gave you. Get one poster to host the discussion. Each poster with an account has his/her own blog. That blog can be regulated by the host – i.e. who can see it who can’t. That way you can track the progression of the plans.
This is a really nice site with lots of features. The support staff, I am sure, would be more than happy to help you thru getting them figured out.

I told LH the other day that I was tempted to re-post the email we all got from Phillip Brownlee asking us to come back. That was after reading a whole bunch of GS's interpretation of "reality." I thought it might help set the record straight - i.e., we were not making a bunch of irrational demands, when ultimately our requests were intended to make the WE Blog a better place.
Reich-wingers (and I really don't like using that term; but hey, sometimes it fits) are really good at seeing benevolence as a high crime and/or misdemeanor.
You know, I was having another thought today - one I hadn't thought in a while. If GMC is a state employee, he is posting his psychotic rants on my dime (taxes, that is) and I am not real crazy about that. Maybe we need to help the state use its resources better.
GMC also stole the thunder that I was hoping to generate with my abortion thread. Abortion threads may not be the post magnet they were at the other place.
Anyway, here is Phillip's email:
"I feel like Abraham Lincoln (or maybe the beaver) in those Rozerem commercials: “We want you back.” But, unfortunately, I don’t have good news about your recommendations.
"As I’ve mentioned before, The Eagle does not own the blog, and our corporate owners don’t want registrations on blogs. I’ve asked several times about this.
"They did finally agree to block IP addresses, but warned that doing so often isn’t effective and could result in inadvertently blocking the wrong person. We decided to try it and had them block the worst troll on the blog beginning in mid-January. But after someone on this e-mail list complained numerous times about being blocked, we removed the block on Feb. 24 to see if that would fix her problem. When it didn’t, we reinstated the block on Monday. During the time the block was off, the troll was posting.
"Typepad, the blog vendor, also has a program glitch that hurts our ability to monitor postings. I’ve been complaining to the company about this for several months. As I mentioned at the last blog meet-up, I’m hoping that our corporate owners will switch vendors.
"In the meantime, our tech people recommend ignoring trolls as much as possible, which I realize isn’t easy. And if there is an offensive post that you want us to consider removing, e-mail us about it.
"I know this won’t satisfy your or my desire for a better blog, but I hope you will consider returning. We miss your participation and insights."

Hello, my cheeky little monkeys . . .
Even though they are all "so glad that the irrational hate-filled libs are gone," they can't stop talking about us even as the days drag into weeks.
Pretty funny when you think about it.
Here's my quick list for today:
1. GMC. Dude. Even though I never agreed with you, I had some respect for your ideas at times. Your spittle-flecked rant sounds like a two-year old who badly needs a nap. Given that you have a position of authority and a law degree, both the content and style of the message is an embarrassment to your profession.
And, fer heaven's sake, use a spell-checker. "Hypocrite" ends in an "e." Jeez, no wonder people have turned against public education . . .
2. If we had an illusions that perhaps the Right would be forced to look in the mirror as we have done and try to make the WEBlog a better place, here's the proof positive that the worst offender is still going to offend whenever possible:
Admission by WSClark on the Wichita Voice Blog...
This has been an interesting day, to say the least. I've been busy
as Hell today, not including my time "posting" on the OTHER blog,
and I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. I prefer to handle my mischief via telephone, but that just won't work in this situation.
Posted by: Republican | March 28, 2007 at 12:18 AM
Of course, it was abundantly clear that WSC post was dripping with sarcasm--he was saying that he couldn't have been posting there (as GSheridan accused him of) because he was running around town with some pressing matters.
JMRepublicanEierOriginalSteveUncleWilliamTylerDurden knowingly and selectively cut and pasted WSC's words so that it made him look guilty of posting there.
Remember that when you hear people like GMC complain that "we're the problem."

I thought the same Cap'n. What a hit job on Clark. A partial post of partial comments in a long line of sarcastic posts about seeing Clark wherever they go.
And they wonder why Clark reacts to their jabs? hehehehe. I hope anyone who is interested will go back and read the entire open thread here from yesterday. That ought to just about do it for their credibility and twisting our posts to suit their "spin".
On another note, I'll post something next from Salon. It's long, but very worth the read. It crackes me up when people say the 06 elections were a blip in the GOP's Thousand Year Reich hold on the US. Hell, this article says it all. I think the Dems could run a YELLOW DOG and win the White House in '08 and beyond.
It must give the wingnuts nightmares, given how furiously they deny it.
"How Bush helped the GOP commit suicide"
A new study shows that unless the Democrats self-destruct, they could walk into the White House in '08 -- and might hold it for years.
By Gary Kamiya
...
But the significance of the Pew study, the latest in a series that started in 1987, goes beyond Bush or the upcoming election. On virtually every issue, it shows that the public holds views that are closer to those of the Democrats than the Republicans -- and that long-term trends are moving in that direction, too.
For the GOP, its move-to-the-right strategy paid short-term dividends, but that ploy is now looking like a case of live by the sword, die by the sword. Its greatest challenge is now to find a way to recapture the political center without alienating the right-wing base to which it has so effectively pandered. For it looks like hard-right positions aren't playing in Peoria anymore.
Take public support for government programs, a key index of difference between the parties. Sixty-nine percent of Americans believe that "government should care for those who can't care for themselves" -- up 12 percent from 1994, the year of Newt Gingrich's anti-government "Contract With America."
Another remarkable finding concerned social conservatism -- the issue that inspired so much hand-wringing after the 2004 elections, with many pundits opining that most Democrats were simply too liberal and secular-minded on "values" issues to win.
This was always overblown -- and, in fact, this and earlier Pew surveys have consistently found that Americans have been growing less conservative on social values issues over the last 20 years.
The survey asks six questions dealing with social values, including homosexuality, the place of women in society, and whether one has "old-fashioned values about family and marriage." As the report sums up its findings: "In 1987, about half of the survey's respondents (49 percent) gave conservative answers to at least four of the six questions. In 2007, just 30 percent did so. This trend has occurred in all major social, political, and demographic groups in the population.
While Republicans remain significantly more conservative than Democrats or independents on social values, they too have become substantially less conservative over this period. The decline in social conservatism is being hastened by generational change, as each new age cohort has come into adulthood with less conservative views on the questions than did their predecessors."
For example, the number of Americans who said they had "old-fashioned values about family and marriage" dropped from 87 in 1990 to 76 in 2007. Still more striking was the change in attitudes toward gay teachers: In 1990 49 percent of those polled said that school boards had the right to fire homosexual teachers. In 2007, only 28 percent did.
Since his group's studies have shown that Americans have been growing less conservative for 20 years, how did Kohut explain the 2004 elections? "Well, I'd say that was a case where we were still being affected by the 9/11 attacks," he said. "There was a lot of concern about Kerry's strength of decision making, and Bush's leadership was still positively regarded. And second terms are different from open elections."
If "values" isn't a winning card in 2008, national security may not be, either. The Pew study casts serious doubt on whether Republicans can still count on this being an ace in the hole. In 2002, after the 9/11 attacks, 62 percent of Americans agreed that the best way to ensure peace is through military strength.
Five years and one war in Iraq later, that figure has declined sharply, to 49 percent. Republican support for that proposition remains overwhelming and unchanged at 72 percent, versus 40 percent of Democrats (down from 55 percent in 2002).
But the critical figure is the independents. Only 46 percent of independents agree, while 51 percent disagree. This suggests that the Democratic fear of being labeled "weak on national security" is overblown and may be caused more by unconvincing attempts to appear "tough" than by actual policy positions.

I think Dubya, that you were the big winner in this little flame war today. :) Good on ya as Molly Ivins used to say.
You need to send GMC, Paulie, Golfnut, and little miss pissy pants a thank you note. All they did was generate more interest here and more hits. heheheheh.
Ya know, I was reading Rosie's blog about the brits, iran, and the gulf of tonkin. It dawned on me that GS and other hate Rosie because....
1. She is a lesbian
2. She is fat and not a glamor girl
3. She is an opinionated woman
4. She is veeeerrrry successful and talented
5. She is a LIBERAL *GASP*
6. She always calls a spade a bloody freakin' shovel.
7. She uses language and images that are not G rated
8. She's not ashamed that she is a lesbian
I'm sure you can think of others. Has it dawned on you why GS hates Rosie so much? Do ya think Rosie reminds her of anyone?

Thanks for posting that. I do think the abortion threads are not going to be the obsession here that they were elsewhere. Here, we have no need to hijack a thread, flame free discussion on the topic is cool. But it is a good example that Mary and I are at opposite ends of the spectrum on this issue... and we still like each other :)

Despite everything that's been said about this mission in the media, despite four years of the drumbeat of defeat and, "It's not possible," we still have young men like your son signing up for this all over the country. I have to believe that when they see what the Democrats in the House are doing and how they're smiling and gloating over securing what they think is defeat, I have to totally understand how they would be angered about this and fit to be tied. But the bottom line is: even after that, they still go, and I'll betcha they go even more fired up than otherwise.

I heard this too last night. They BURNED Pat Tillman's diary and his uniform after he died. I think this one could really turn ugly if the truth ever came out. The comments, again, are better than the post.

Linda- OK- By the way, I deny any accusations of having animal fetishes because of there jokes!
The Chicken Joke:
A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against
the headboard smoking a cigarette, with a satisfied smile on its face.
The egg, looking a bit pissed off, grabs the sheet, rolls over, and
says, "Well, I guess we finally answered THAT question."
If anyone needs it explained - read it a second time.
The Pig Joke:
An agricultural salesman was calling on a local farmer, and they were standing in the barnyard dicussing crop proces. The salesman looks over and sees a pig with a wooden leg in a pen."What's with the pig with the wooden leg?" he asked.
The farmer says" That's a special pig- the first day I owned him, I loaded into the bed of my pickup and was taking home. I remember the fron tire blowing out, and the truck going into the ditch. When I came to, I was laying in the middle of a field, and my truck has blown up and burned. The pig must have pulled me out of the cab , and saved my life."
He added "Just last month I heard loud noises early in the morning, and when I went and checked, I found the shed next to my barn on fire. If the pig hadn't awakened me, I would have lost my barn and all its contents."
"So what abut the wooden leg" asked the saleman.
The farmer answered ," A valuable pig like that- you can't eat him all at once!".
Enjoy!

I have yet to get over my disappointment in GMC's flaming attack this a.m. I hardly ever agreed with him, thought he was a tad bit on the pompous side, BUT I did not think he was an ass. His post this a.m. disabused of this latter thought.
GMC is against name calling, but comes here and calls names. He is against "sides", but implies one can't post on both blogs. He calls us hypocrites, but shows himself to be an extreme case of one.
GMC is somebody who has seriously marginalized himself. It is just too bad. I done with him here, and if I go back there, done with him there, too.
Thanks for allowing me to vent.

I think he's had 2 strikes, IMHO.

Today I've searched for a topic I might introduce to the board. I'm feeling like it's a responsibility I should step to the plate and accept. I've read enough blogs and news sites to get my eyes permanently crossed. But I haven't found any item I think might be interesting to you. You are all well read and well informed.
The only topic I have studied and feel well informed on is embryonic stem cell research. I can take ANY side of that one. In fact I've spent at least as much time studying the "against" side as I have the "for" side. I've got facts. I've got bookmarks to everything and anything. I've got actual scientists. But, either you support it and need no more info because you're ready to get on with the treatments and cures; or, you don't support it and there is NOTHING that can be said to change the mind of the person possessed of an idea. I won't argue for the sake of arguing. If something can't be chewed on and considered and helpful, why spend time on it!?
Then there are topics I would like to know more about. But would it seem really lazy to ask for your opinions. Would you just feel like I should go out there and do the research?
I would like to know more about when public transportation becomes something worth spending tax dollars for. How big does the city need to be, does it need to pay for itself, is it a service that increases other profit areas, how did the cities that have mass public transportation systems get there and why???
I would like for each of you to share your most helpful places on the web. No limitations on subject matter. Where do you go and what value does it bring? Is there a place with the best recipes? Is there a place where you can find the perfect quote for every situation? Onandon...
So, can we have some ground rules? You have more blogging experience than I. lh, when you mentioned a thread about water I thought, Ok, I NEED to learn more and she has valuable info to share. So I hope she does! Honestly, I didn't know I needed to know until I read you. Maybe I'm not alone. Advice anyone?
And where are Tracy and CF? I miss them both!

Well, Linda Inks, let's get a couple of things straight right off - you are probably twice as smart and three times as tough as any of us - and don't pretend that you're not. Second, what ever you write about is going to be well thought out and reasoned - so just go for it!
You are very correct in wanting to adress the mass transportation issue. Taking a bus instead of driving a car/suv should not be an ordeal. The busses should run 24/7, instead they barely run 70 hours per week. There also should be no stigma to taking the bus, but that is not the way it is.
So, Linda Inks, write it up! Express your opinion!
Go for it, girl, ya' got the goods and you know it!

Linda,
I'm interested in a mass transit discussion. There are 2 reasons for this. This morning, on my way home after taking my daughter to work, I was driving west on 21st between Rock and Woodlawn. A bus was letting an elderly woman off at a medical complex in that area, and I suddenly saw myself at the age (not in the far away future) of having to do the same. Or at least being forced to take the bus instead of drive.
The problem is, I can't figure out the bus system in this city. I can navigate the subway system in Manhattan (NYC) with relative ease, but the Wichita transit system is either extremely complex or so simple that I don't recognize it.
So how many of you have ridden the bus here? I did as a kid, but am baffled as an adult.

An excellent problem to solve - the ICT bus system. My son's freshman project is to work out the GPS system. Perhaps a better idea would be to work out the ICT bus system???

By GPS what do you mean? I've got alot of information for GPS, if he is interested, however I suspect, from you've said before he could probably do well on his own on that. ;)
Linda,
IN reality I'm interested in the embryonic stem cell research and anything stem cell wise. My oldest(should that be eldest?) sister does research at Howard Hughes Medical Center, she takes the side of against embryonic stem cell research, and because she if family and who I'd consider an expert also, I do listen to her.
However, I do like to read about it and think to myself, maybe I'll take some more biology and get into a bio-tech field. I'm so confused and have two degrees and still just want to learn more. Is that a boon or a bane?

Good morning Tracy! So good to read you. Hope all is well.
The question no opponent of ESC research has ever answered is why is it OK to throw away the blastocyst left over at the fertility clinic instead of using it for research? Seems HOW it is destroyed is important not that it is. They'll hedge that one every time, go on to some other atrocity or rumor or scary thing in the talking points. But I'm preaching to the choir here so I'm OUT on this subject too.

I'm actually of the opposite end, you see I'm against ESC, however, I do like to read it about it. So if you could share some more articles that I can go read about it, I'd be happy.
So my being against it, means should we create more to continue the research, and my answer is no. So in using the ones already made being thrown out, well I'm more apt to be quiet about. Doesn't mean I'm not saddened by it.
I guess ultimately, I am more of the conclusion that perhaps the act that had gotten us to this point is to blame. However, I also wouldn't want to deny those who want to bear a child but can't through any other means.
I happen to agree, nobody does answer the question why is it ok to destroy a human one way but not another. Myself, as stated, said I'm against ESC, however, since some embryos are being destroyed, then save lives with those, just don't make more is what I'm against.
Hopefully in this, I didn't avoid the point of the conversation here.

Sorry, my wording up there pretty much sucked. :D
