I feel for KSU in this current mess; they take a chance on Huggins, he leaves after one year for his "dream job"; it's April; there are indications that the #1 bball recruiting class isn't going to come (or at least the more impressive members thereof); a lot to deal with.

Random thoughts...................
Let's see KSU do something great for a change. Instead of recycling some old broken down chump as Head B'Ball Coach, I want to see them make a bold move like they did when they hired their Football Coach. That's right, hire a BLACK assistant from a major program and let him build the KSU B'Ball program like Snyder did when built the Football program.
Yeah, I know that Snyder was white - the point is, he was a relative unknown assistant when they turned the football program over to him.
Kentucky just went the recycle route. WVU recycled. Michigan recycled. Those are good programs. Even a hardcore Cat fan knows that KSU has limited B'Ball tradition.
Show some cajones and go out on a limb......
Random Thought Two - Bush is the WPE and Cheney is sub-human.
Who thought of this weather? 'Mon! Fess up!
Is there anything much better than a good steak and a baked potato?
Twenty-seven dead in Iraq after a chlorine bomb attack - yep, the Surge is working just fine.
Remember "Freedom is on the March?"
If I close my eyes and pray, will it be January 2009 when I open them?
Hypocrisy, thy name is Republican..............
"Cheney accuses Pelosi of ‘bad behavior’ in Syria
Vice president says speaker of the House bungled a message for Damascus"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17965733/
In the last two weeks, eleven Congresscritters have visited Damascus, five Republicans and six Democrats, yet the GOP criticizes the Democrats, while giving the Rep's a pass. NOWHERE in this article is that fact mentioned, yet the GOP complains about the liberal media.
Off to the grocery store.......
See y'all later. Be good, be safe or don't get caught!

Looks like KSU might be seriously considering Frank Martin(current assistant to be promoted to head coach). That could be interesting as it may be enough to keep most of the recruits "here."

WS, I agree with your comments concerning KSU and the hiring of a new basketball coach.
The following is my opionion on why WS is correct about consideration of an African-American coach:
About four years ago, the Collegian (KSU student newspaper) failed to cover the Big 12 Black Student Union meeting in Manhattan, opting instead to provide coverage for a rodeo. There were letters written in protest concerning this, an investigation was conducted, which IIRC resulted in a new faculty advisor being appointed, a staff reshuffle, and other things. Bill Snyder, the head football coach, began to have even more difficulties in recruiting "quality" players than he had been experiencing, and the men's basketball coach at the time (Jim Woolridge) seemed to have a similar lack of success in recruiting. I believe this was, in part, a reaction to the attitude towards African-Americans perceived to exist in Manhattan, a perception of negativism. The hiring of Ron Prince, I believe, has begun to negate this perception. I also believe the hiring of Bob Huggins, given his total track record, also began to alter this perception. The hiring of an African-American head men's basketball coach will further this. So, WS, for my reasons listed above, I reiterate my support for your position!

VT,
I was here during that time. I agree, while there was actually coverage in the Collegian, it was front page coverage and was relegated to a short little two paragraph article.
I tend to think it had some unintended affects, even if it was unintentional. However, I do think it opened up some eyes on campus.

Ben Neary, an AP reporter based in Cheyenne, noticed that Wyoming's entry -- an amateurish line drawing of an egg skiing down a mountain -- was created by Phillip LeDonne of Elmhurst, Illinois."
So how did LeDonne, an Illinois college student, come to decorate the official Wyoming egg? Seems cronyism even enters into the artist selection.

I hope to go to the dog show tomorrow. I went last year and really enjoyed watching the agility contests especially. I won't look up Hank and disturb his work. I met him once but am not sure I would recognize him if we were eye to eye, so I'll just enjoy the dogs. I'm hoping my youngest granddaughter will go with me.
My wish for everyone is a great weekend spent however makes each of you happiest!
And I hope we get lots more posters who liven up this place. I sure miss longhorn!
VT, those codes and minimum alternative whatchamacallits you mention occasionally would drive me stark raving mad but I'm really glad there are dedicated knowledgeable professionals like you to take care of the numbskulls like me.

I've been working most of the day and haven't had time to post anything until now. Kinda late, I know.
Did anyone else see the news that Goodling (the woman who was going to plead the 5th where Gonzales and the firings was concerned) has resigned her job? Man, she must be in some HOT WATER!
Too late to watch a movie now... Guess I'll go see what the 'pukes are doing over at WEBlog.

Linda, hope you get to the dog show and have a good time. Those things I've been referring to in posts are part of the job, and have been taking over what little mind I still have lately.
Pre, saw that Goodling had resigned; have been contemplating what that means overall. Part of what I've come up with in the "little mind left" is that it places a bit of a roadblock in front of the committee, I believe, in having her testify; it creates another hoop or two to jump through procedurally, IIRC.

Pre, the link below is posted so you, as a KSU fan, might take a look at the "centerpiece" of the incoming Freshman recruiting class in men's basketball at KSU. The hire of Martin as head coach and Hill as Associate Head Coach appears to me to be an attempt to hold onto him, and the others.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic...
Not meaning to turn this into a KSU sports blog, but doesn't this give a KSU fan pause? The young man is an immensely talented basketball player, to be sure; but to risk the future of the entire program (IMHO) by the hiring of the two folks named above to ensure his attendance at KSU (even for one year) when there are questions of his even being eligible under appropriate NCAA regulations to play as a Freshman is not a good decision. When traveling yesterday afternoon to a meeting with a client, I was listening to WIBW's afternoon sports talk show; the moderator was trying to temper the enthusiasm of callers about Mr. Beasley by discussing this issue (apparently, the results of the latest testing are in and he still didn't qualify), only to be roundly ignored by the callers.
To all: the above post is an example of what happens when I am taking a break from my professional life; I start ranting about basketball, and other nonserious topics, at the "drop of a keystroke".

Thanks for the KSU link, VT! I haven't kept up much on the Bball program, but one of my son-in-laws attended KSU (played football) and follows everything. I'm sure I'll get his views on this tonight. College Bball is the only kind I can watch. Pro bores me. LOL
As for that new attorney is Minneapolis, things are getting kinda scary. I understand that those in places of position often gives jobs to underlings and others who have supported them, but usually they aren't positions with much power. With this administration, we see people in places that have no right to be there, and unfortunately they often prove just how unworthy they are. Brownie's heckuva job is in the top five.
There have been so many things sneaked in, from the Patriot Act to the wire-tapping to you-name-it, nothing at all would really surprise me where this admin (GW and the rest) are concerned. JR mentioned once that he was 50/50 on whether GW would declare marshal law (oops, Marshall Law ;) ) before the elections in '08. While I'm not by any means 50/50 on it, I also don't rule it out. We may never know how much damage has been done to our freedoms and rights as citizens.
It's good to know the Dems in Congress have grown a backbone, but I wonder if it isn't too little too late.
Damn scary stuff.

Gster, the Sudafed explanation for the BP incident seemed a reasonable explanation for the "problem"; I'm a life-long allergy sufferer, and am painfully aware of the side effects of various antihistamines, etc.
Hope the income taxes are going well; personally, got ours done ~6 weeks ago. There's nothing like being the parent of a college student and the need for the information to complete financial aid forms and to be provided to the financial aid office to give one impetus to "git 'er done".

BTW, Gster, use of the electronic filing option for Kansas, at least, as provided by the Kansas Department of Revenue on its website is as "painless" a way to get that task completed as I have found. Good product, easy to use, and the best way to file the state return, IMHO.

ROFL DUH! I knew that. Thanks for the correction though. I must go find my brains. Reminds me of the old joke about why blondes have dimples in their chins and flat foreheads. It's visual, so I can't give the punch line, but imagine me putting my finger in the middle of my chin, going, "Hmmmmmm...." then slapping my forehead with the palm of hand, saying, "Oh, yeah!"
Gster, one of my good friends was put on Wellbutrin. Within days, her BP skyrocketed. She decided she'd rather be semi-depressed than either take more meds for the high BP or...well, the other option, which includes not breathing.
Meds scare me. (Okay, LOTS of things scare me these days.) My mother is 84, and you don't want to see her gallon size Ziplock bags full of prescriptions. I admit to using herbal products. My cold a week ago lasted 3 days, thanks to echinacea. Last October I started taking St. John's Wort for depression. I had found myself crying several times a day, for the dumbest of reasons...or no reason at all. I'm doing great now. There are some good, safe things for arthritis, too. And, considering my marshall/martial law gaffe, maybe I should start on the ginkgo biloba immediately! LOL
Stay well, all, stay warm. Spring really is here, just in disguise of winter.

Happy Easter to those of you of that persuasion, happy Sunday to those that are not. Random thoughts.........
First, my sincere apologies to the WV Blog editors and anyone else offended by my flame-fest last night with a blogger that shall remain nameless. The particular individual came to the blog and immediately attacked one of us. That was also his style on the other blog. I reacted. I do not regret my words directed towards the individual in question, but I do regret that it was on this blog. Again, I apologize.
I also spent part of my evening last night throwing darts at a WE Blogger that used a anti-Semitic slur directed towards me some time ago. This individual, also to remain nameless, alternately claimed that his words were not a slur or that I wasn't partially Jewish anyway. Anyway, it got me to thinking a bit on the dilemma: what is worse a bigot that denies his bigotry and tries to hide it or a bigot that is open about his bigotry and is proud of it?
To be honest, I would rather deal with someone that is openly bigoted rather than someone that tried to deny it. Thoughts?
I am in a bit of a nasty mood today - sorry folks - not my usual perky little liberal self. I will work on it......
We have two remotes for our DVR/TV system. Each are about a foot long and weighs 12.3 pounds. We still lose them. I am about to chain each of them to a bowling ball.
Is there any animal lazier than a cat? We have two of them. They sleep 23 1/2 hours a day. For the other half hour of the day, they eat and crap. What a gig to have........
Oh, yeah, if they are in the mood, they will play with the milk rings or chase the catnip toy around. When I am reincarnated, I want to come back as a cat - a male cat, somethings will never change.
I am working up the desire to call my father. He is 91, living in Florida and is a bit of a pain. I never know what to expect when I talk to him. Sometimes he is okay, but he frequently complains long and hard about my children. It gets a bit tiresome. My brother is wheelchair bound so it is always up to me to take care of the old man. Medical science is wonderful, but they didn't prepare adults like me to care for aging parents.
I received my annual SS report Friday. It says that I will be eligible for $2,200 per month when I am 66. Anyone want to bet I will never see that? Our National Debt is $9 trillion our entitlements obligations are $39 trillion - how the Hell can we ever pay these debts?
Oh, well, I am babbling a bit...... I'll sign off for now.
Have a great day!!!!!!!

One son and one daughter and her family are coming for dinner. The other son, other daughter and her family aren't local and we won't get to see them, we'll also be missing the oldest grandson who is away at college. We'll eat their share and there will be good-natured phone calls from those here to rub it in to those away.
On the flaming. I think it is the most fun and the best situation when we're able to discuss a subject, share information and ideas and opposing opinions. We all gain perspective. When anyone resorts to accusing someone of being less than smart or informed or educated just because they think differently it benefits no one. If we reduce ourselves to less than common courtesy, well -- we're just reduced.
Opinions are a dime a dozen -- we ALL have one. We each post our opinion when we choose, then go out and pull in sources and reasons why that's what we believe (and we ALL know we can find support of every opinion!) The next person says, "But I disagree and here's why." Or each of us finds info the rest might not have seen and maybe that starts a discussion. Fun, huh?
Public figures actions and words are praised or criticized depending on whether we agree with them or not. A verbal attack on a public person is NOT an attack on the person who supports them. It's an attack on a public person. That's what happens when you put yourself in the public eye, especially when you're on the public's payroll.
I don't want to fight, call names or be called names so I choose to remove myself and not participate when that behavior continues. That doesn't seem like a discussion to me.
Fun, huh?

Opinions are like (rectums) - everyone has one and everyone thinks that the next guy's stinks.
Ahhhhhh...........................
Just talked to my father - he is doing well. I often say that he is going to outlive me. He is a pretty hardcore right winger - has Fox Noise on most of the day - and he is quite the religious type.
Needless to say, our conversations can be interesting. This one went pretty well, overall, but he still thinks GWB is a GREAT guy.
Whatever....................
Glad to hear that you are having a good day with the family, Linda. Family is everything. Absolutely.
My kid is sleeping - works midnight shift - so we are going to have dinner about 9:30. Not being Christian, we don't celebrate Easter. The Christian Holidays present some problems, in that my granddaughter is being raised with a Christian influence, so I have to recognize those for her.
Anyway.......................

Real nice, what a headline for KSU. I hate to say I told you so (okay, I actually enjoy it) but no one should be surprised that Huggins screwed Kansas State. The man is a sleazy bastard worthy of a position with the Bush Administration.
"K-State the biggest loser in coaching carousel
Wildcats should have known about Huggins; Florida comes up big"

WS,
I agree about KSU and Huggins. But hey, what voice do I have... they were going to hire him, it is the administrations option to do so...
Oh well.

Damn me to hell I missed alot yesterday or today, or whenever it happened, but then I've been busy travelling for the Easter holiday type deal.
Back now, but still. Go away for a bit and WW3 is practically breaking out in this small corner of the 1's and 0's world. ;)

Danny, I think you were reffering to the fact that you are not supportive of the fertility clinic's actions. My hat's off to you for that.
Common sense and logic prevails.
If you believe that the newly fertilized egg should be protected, so the same should apply at the clinics, correct?
Abortion/right to life issues are really not my battle though, ESC research is more in line with my interests.

Sounds like many people spent our holiest weekend of the year spreading hatred over at blog X.
How boring and spiritually unrewarding.

Will and I exchanged a couple of emails (JUST as Nathan accused) and we agreed to recommit ourselves to civility. We all (back when there were more of us) made that commitment to each other, the bloggers we've met since and (very importantly) our host Dubya. We're back on track!
I had a great Sunday! Family all around -- some in person, some just their voice on the phone. Now what am I going to do with a BUNCH of leftover ham, twice-baked potatoes, fresh green beans and at least half of two pies and a cake?? Me thinks I don't know how to cook for HALF the family.
I'm off to walk with Ginger. See y'all around later.

Well, WSU fans, the rumor is that Turgeon will be named as the Texas A&M head coach. It seems the carousel keeps turning.
Glad to hear that those who have posted had a good weekend, from what I read; mine was good also.
Now, if the construction guys can get some heat in this building....

Tracy,
If I understand you correctly, yes. I have had to read that three times already, which means one of two things, I'm tired, or dreading taking care of car taxes today. Either way... LOL
When it comes to this right to life, I'm not so foolish as to think abolishing something will address the other needs out there. I think the needs and reasons for it need to be addressed and solved.
I'm working on an interesting article that talks about using computer chips to replace damaged brain cells. I was reading this weekend. Seemed interesting to say the least. Probably the applicable use is 10 to 30 years out still though.
