Sorry folks, I'm in a poetry mood today.

As we see it now, it overrides our lives like color unto drab
There is no earthly concern other than aquisition
The important issues lanquish into apathy
It's hard to say
What's so important about avarice in existence?
They're both a form of greed, we live to kill, and kill to live
Why can't we understand,...they both lead to freedom
Freedom from greed, is that bliss?
Freedom from existance, is that serenity?
We can't even define those five words.
Someone give me a definition of existence.
Serenity in existence...now that's interesting,
I'm greedy for serenity, yet everything around me that has to do with
Humanity, says I must'nt be serene.
No, I have to be productive for society, otherwise it will fall apart.
That's what they tell me, but....
If I try to produce serenity in other human beings, I will be severly
Reprimanded, and they will do everything they can to make my existence,
Non-existence.
Invisibility!
Oh! He's just another fool that thinks what goes on inside,
Is more important than what I can see outside of myself.
What's more important than myself?...Yet at the same time,
What's so frightening?...About myself?
It's imperative I remain outside myself,
Otherwise, I will have to face myself.
Oh my god, it's full of stars!
And it goes on forever!
Oh my stars, it's full of god!
And forever it goes!
No, no, I can't handle that.
It's too dark in there!
Did you ever hear the word entropy?
The stars go out real fast in human beings.
When I was little, I remember it replete with galaxies of binaries,
And nebulae, and novas, and suns, and systems, and stars upon stars, And shifting colors, and bands of streaking iridescence...but,
Little by little they started going out, when they kept telling me,
You only go round once, so go for the gusto, 'cause when you die,
It all goes black!
Forever!
Bullshit!
If you believe that, then you can join the crowd of absolute idiots,
Unmitigating cretins, that live to kill.
They think they're getting rid of us,
Us unbelievers,
It would be a good idea, if they would fall into one of their own suns,
One of these days.
Get burnt by the radiance of themselves!
That'll teach'em!
Then they can teach us.

Gster, as posted in March, I thought he'd be gone long before now. Thus, anything I say may, and probably will, be wrong.

Given the apparently unexpected hostility displayed by all but one GOP senator on the committee, making it now appear this is a "bipartisan witchhunt", I would think he'd be gone by the end of April. HOWEVER, the fact that any replacement would need to be confirmed by the Senate does, IMHO, militate against AG AG's resignation, assuming that any replacement would need to be a "loyalist" first.

VT-Good points. If there is a replacement, he would have to pass the Bush test , and then run the gauntlet for the Senate confimation.

I'm not sure there is anyone out there that could, or would, meet both conditions. Maybe promote from within DOJ?

Okay, one more and I'll leave ya'll alone.

Some Things Will never Change

In the fullness of our lifetimes, the emptiness of
goals,
We will strive to make perfection, we'll run aground
on many shoals
some will try to be conformist, others find out what
is strange
but in the order of this chaos, some things will never
change

'Tween sea and sky we spend our time, all cycles writ
in stone,
from birth to death we play our roles, carried through
with flesh and bone,
while some stay put and never move, now others roam
the range,
but in the order of this chaos, some things will never
change

Through the wonders of perception, we question time
and space,
we grapple with the issues, but never that of grace,
in seeking God we kill ourelves, I find this so
deranged,
but in the order of this chaos, some things will never
change

He said the times are changing, twas but a superficial
act,
the face of man will never shift, so violent his pact,
yet born to love and knowing this, he chooses to
estrange,
but in the order of this chaos, some things will never
change

Of being human cast aside, we look into our face,
reflections in our mirrored souls, our final resting
place,
we must believe in tolerance, and somehow to arrange,
that in the order of this chaos, some things will
never change

The cry of birth, the rise of sun, the waning of the
moon,
the pass of breath, the still of death, will come to
all too soon,
but life imparts a strength of force, which we cannot
explain,
but in the order of this chaos, some things will never
change

The stars innate defiance, of distances untold,
of life to be discovered, of love to yet unfold,
the myriad millenia will pass like tears in rain,
but in the order of this chaos, some things will never
change

Tracy, You've been leaving us alone too much lately. I know you have gone through a rough time and I'm sorry you and your friend and his family have to face such sadness and I know you're busy at work, but share away. When you're in a poetry mood, share poetry. It does speak to us at times, doesn't it!? I write a little bit of really bad poetry. It's my therapy and works for me!

AG AG still with us and still delaying the inevitable path directly to the White House. Seems he is serving a purpose. I'm sure he will be rewarded handsomely for falling on his own sword. Can you imagine the investigations that should be going on and what could be uncovered!? So much to do, so little time.

I'm just home from having a root canal this morning. I look deformed, especially when I smile. Good news -- I can't eat for at least a few hours.

Is it safe yet to plant some pretty flowers in some pots and put at the front walk and out at the back patio? I want spring badly. Guess I'll run up to Ace Hardware and buy some pretties and get them planted. I'll try not to smile at the clerk or any unsuspecting customers. Don't like scaring people.

I did a little research about one James Macklin. That letter to the editor seemed awfully familiar to me. If you google him, his phone number and address come up, along with some very intresting stuff. Stuff that would lead you right back to JM, Republican, etc. Heheheheheheheh.

He likes to post on a blog that supposedly originates out of Atlanta. www.grouchyoldcripple.com. Sound familiar? Guess what appeared there, complete with comments from Jim Macklin? You got it. One of his cut and pastes at blog x. heheheheheheheh.

You can even get his email address by googling him and it leads you to other blogs where he posts. It will all look very familiar with those of you keeping troll score at home.

Perhaps JM is not as clever as he thinks he is? I think his ego wanted to see his name in print more than he wanted to protect his identity.

I found his description of the duties performed, attitudes of the Iraqi people with whom he and his unit came into contact with, the positive things he could point to as happening, the negatives, well worth reading.

Didn't know, BTW, until I reached the end of the article that the younger had been involved.

This was the military guy who opposes first-person shooting games I was trying to think of on Wednesday:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Grossman_(author)

http://www.killology.com/

This information is from an email of a child psychiatrist friend of mine. I think I knew such duty stations existed, but you don't hear much about them:

"A well-kept secret is the real life, real time video "game" in the Iraq war - the military who report for duty in Nevada bases (rumor has it at McConnell as well), for hours to look at screens which give info from the unmanned drones, and press a button to fire the guns half a world away. I learned about these when we were in Europe last summer and British press reported. Not exactly classified, can be confirmed, but no one in the U.S. has carried this story. The craziness of being in this half-a-world-away head space for 8 hrs, then driving home to be with family, has a known psychological cost."

Excellent investigative reporting, longhorn. My money was on him being GolfNut. He disputes being GolfNut, but you know, I don't think he has disputed the JM allegation quite as much anyway.

Dahlia Lithwick writes for Slate (where the Gonzo-Meter rates today's chance of a Gonzales departure at 95 percent): "If David Iglesias, former U.S. attorney of New Mexico, was really fired for any reason other than party politics, today was the day to disprove that. Gonzales didn't. In fact, he claims that the burden of proof is on the committee to prove he's done something wrong."

She also writes: "One of the finest moments comes when Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., busts out a big, big chart. . . . The chart compares the Clinton protocol for appropriate contacts between the White House and the DoJ on pending criminal cases with the Bush protocol. According to Whitehouse, the Clinton protocol authorized just four folks at the White House to chat with three folks at Justice. The chart had four boxes talking to three boxes. Out comes the Bush protocol, and now 417 different people at the White House have contacts about pending criminal cases with 30-some people at Justice. You can just see zillions of small boxes nattering back and forth. It seems that just about everyone in the White House, including the guys in the mailroom, had a vote on ongoing criminal matters."

The chart isn't easily read but just looking at it you get a laugh about the differences in the two administrations she mentions above.

I always wondered where those crazy sayings came from. GS once said to me "Jesus Christ on a corndog" Which I always found rather disturbing, but that's just me. I was curious where the heck that came from...

funny you should mention circumcision, Clark, as there was this whole discussion yesterday on "the othe blog" abortion thread about why circumcision is legal... rather off topic but some of the comments were mildly amusing... I have to say that it was something i put a lot of consideration into with my son before deciding to do it... And for the record, they do administer a local anesthetic before doing the procedure - my son cried more at that than at the actual circumcision...

Op-Ed Contributor
A Terrorist Goes Free
By BERNARDO ÁLVAREZ HERRERA
Washington

AFTER the attacks of Sept. 11, President Bush forcefully argued that it was every country’s duty to fight international terrorism. He made the case that sponsoring terrorism or simply looking the other way when it happened were equivalent acts, and the United States would stand for neither. But holes have started appearing in that principle, courtesy of a single Venezuelan terrorist, released this week from a New Mexico prison on bail.

In early 2005, Luis Posada Carriles, a Venezuelan with a long history of violent attacks in Latin America, sneaked into the United States and was soon arrested. Mr. Posada had escaped from a Venezuelan prison while awaiting trial in the bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976 that killed 73 people, including all 24 members of Cuba’s youth fencing team and several Guyanese medical students. This was the deadliest attack on a civilian airliner in the Western Hemisphere in history — until 9/11.

Upon Mr. Posada’s capture, the government of President Hugo Chávez demanded his extradition. But the Bush administration has refused to extradite Mr. Posada to Venezuela or Cuba, claiming that it fears he will be tortured in those countries. In fact, Washington’s reluctance is more likely linked to Mr. Posada’s history as a Central Intelligence Agency operative and a darling of extremist sectors of the powerful Cuban-American community in Florida (he tried to assassinate Fidel Castro with C-4 explosives placed in an auditorium packed with students in Panama in 2000). Twenty-two months have passed since Venezuela formally asked for his extradition, offering 2,000 pages of documentary evidence to substantiate its claim, yet the State Department has not even acknowledged receiving the request.

Nor has Mr. Posada been charged with the 1976 attack, even though declassified Central Intelligence Agency documents indicate that his role has long been accepted as fact. Instead, he faces charges of immigration fraud, a travesty that could be equaled only by charging Osama bin Laden with entering and leaving Pakistan without a visa. Finally, Mr. Posada was released on bail on Thursday, even though he is an obvious flight risk and a violent terrorist.

Of course, Mr. Posada’s case isn’t the first instance related to Venezuela in which the Bush administration has set aside its principles for political expediency. Five years ago last week, the Bush administration gleefully welcomed a coup that overthrew President Chávez, replacing him with a junta that suspended the Constitution, dismissed the National Assembly and dissolved the Supreme Court. Thankfully, the Venezuelan people ensured that their democratically elected president was returned to power two days later.

Just as the Bush administration’s support for the Venezuelan junta undermined its pledge to uphold and promote democracy around the world, allowing Mr. Posada to avoid prosecution for a vicious attack he can credibly be accused of masterminding throws into doubt the sincerity of President Bush’s war on terrorism. Mr. Posada is a terrorist, regardless of the cause he fought for or the allies he might have. The Bush administration’s foot-dragging on his extradition and its failure to even classify him as a terrorist is unconscionable.

Last week, Venezuelans celebrated the return of democracy after the coup against President Chávez. But they continue to mourn the 73 people killed aboard that civilian airliner. If President Bush is serious about the principles he set out after 9/11, he need only look to Venezuela and correct the mistakes he can. The coup has passed, but the chance to extradite or prosecute Mr. Posada hasn’t.

Bernardo Álvarez Herrera is Venezuela’s ambassador to the United States.

I've been playing in the dirt and things are gonna be colorful around here. I bought four flats of flowers (48 each) and have a little more than half planted. Alyssum, snapdragons, zinnia, begonias, verbena -- in multiple colors and more I don't know the names of, just like them. I have full sun in the back and mostly shade in the front so get to enjoy plants that like each condition.

Wind is frightful today! Makes being outside less pleasant.

The Bush Administration likes to call Hugo Chavez a dictator, but the fact is that he was democratically elected - twice - which is more than you can say about GWB.

After the CIA led coup of a few years ago that deposed Chavez, the Venezuelan people rose up and forced his reinstatement. The American government dislikes Chavez because he is a socialist, but the fact remains that he is very popular with his people and in the region.

One of the after-the-fact justifications for the War on Iraq from George was to "spread democracy." Well, the people of Venezuela have elected Hugo Chavez in a democratic election. Shouldn't we respect that if we are supporting and advocating democracy?

And contrary to Florida 2000, there are no indications that the Venezuelan elections were anything but legitimate.

Little's material Saturday night was safe if occasionally a little raunchy. He dusted off his impersonations of six presidents, from Richard Nixon to the current occupant of the White House, and avoided most reference to current political issues.

While impersonating Bush, he said:

"When this warathon thing against all extremist factions is completified -- what the Hell does that mean,'' he said. "I see a country where there is no bombings and no terrorists....

"I see… I see Switzerland, actually.''

Before Little spoke, CBS star David Letterman made a video appearance from his studio with a top 10 list of taped vignettes showing some of the funniest Bush flubs.

Happy Earth Day!

I have a little of that "earth" in my eyes. The whole family (minus 1 at work) went to the Renaissance Faire at SG Park today and battled the wind and some blowing sand/dirt. All in all, it was a nice outing, but I think the wind made a few of us a little more grumbly than usual.

RM, it's your right not to like Clinton, but let's take just a moment to compare how the majority of countries in the world respond to Bush, and the way they respond to Clinton.

On second thought, that might be too tough for you.

However, it was the U.S. that made the stink about Bill's BJ. The world wasn't laughing at him, they were laughing at the ridiculous way our "representatives" handled it, and that anyone bothered about it at all.

Ah, Newt Gingrich has the answer for the why did it happen question regarding the VTech massacre - the liberals are to blame.

During an interview with George Stephanoplous this morning, the former Speak of the House returned to his days of yesteryear approach of blaming liberals for various heinous crimes. Previously, the Newtster blamed Columbine and the Susan Smith tragedy on liberals.

Pre: Typical of people lacking any sufficient argument on a subject, I'm happy that you can content yourself with personal attacks on me ... someone you don't even know. I suppose you have decided that you don't "like me" using the same two brain cells that you used to decide I don't "like" Bill Clinton.

It has nothing to do with liking or disliking him. I imagine, if I knew him, I would "like" him. Likewise, if I knew her, I pretty sure that I would not "like" her. I'm sure I would "like" George Bush, and not "like" Newt Gingrich, Nancy Pelosi nor Harry Reid.

What I am concerned about that above listed males are buffoons, and the females uninformed hormone enraged bitches who think that preaching feminism since the 1960's have given them the right to be 21st century demagogues, which you can surely identify with. The fact that collectively all of them put together couldn't even define "statesmanship", let alone practice it, bothers me. I denote little change of "image" around the globe between the Clinton and both Bush administrations ... the "image" of the United States has been steadily declining since the Viet Nam era, regardless of the political affiliation of administration.

And just FYI, I could not give a roaring damn who blew Bill when, where or how often. Being married to her, I wouldn't begrudge him anything, though it does seem to make one question his judgments on matters of importance.

Did get some life into this dull place, didn't it!?

I hope Hillary ISN'T the democratic candidate for 2008! I hope that more than I can tell you. That said, the best part of her being president (IMO) would be getting Bill back. I prospered during his two terms! I do think he has a talent for diplomacy (probably better called smoozing in his case). He can smooze better than most, sound sincere better than most and have you watched him in a listening mode? He is one great smoozer!

I do disagree with you rm, about America's image remaining the same now as before Bush's presidency. I think Bush has caused many to laugh at Americans. The farthest I've traveled during bush's presidency is Ireland but I can tell you the people I spoke with there have no respect for bush and wonder about Americans who could elect such a buffoon. I am unable to understand how anyone could maintain respect for that man. What has he done that you think is what a POTUS should do?

I have three pets -- two cats and a dog. My cats are 7 and 6 years old, have lived with me since they were kittens. My dog is approx. 6 years old and only came to my home not quite a year ago. A rescue dog who needed me as badly as I needed her. Seems I had such a great lot of nurturing built up and no one that needed nuturing any longer... I love those pets! They love me back -- even the cats who would rather no one else know of their devotion. So, the pet food recall has bothered me LOTS! I've kept abreast and read more pet food labels than I care to and still worry since there are new foods added daily to the list of DON'T.

An online friend wrote in her blog about the pet food recalls. Including quite a gruesome amount of info about rendering plants and the making of pet foods. If you read some of the comments made to her blog entry you'll find some made by "Jean," who recommends feeding raw, complete with a link to explain.

http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-fJjXRyw0d6PeC7fAqxp...
http://www.rawlearning.com/rawfaq.html

So, are any of you pet owners? Have you also been concerned? What are you doing about it, if anythng?

Since all of you were very quiet all day (actually most days) I did lots of reading about feeding our pets today. Anybody interested?

At the risk of someone misunderstanding my point, but I have to say that George W Bush is the most hated man worldwide since Adolf Hitler.

Note that I am not comparing Bush to Hitler, but both evoke(d) a great deal of hatred throughout the world.

I do not think that a president's image on the world stage is paramount, but it is noteworthy that even our allies seem to despise this man.

Of course, about 150 million Americans hate Bush also.

I have two cats, Linda, or I should say they have me. I lost my dog a year ago and still am not ready to have another one in deference to his memory.

I am/was very concerned about the cat food issue. My cats split about a half a can of Friskies each morning - they demand it the moment I get up - but they only get the Sea Captain's Choice, which is basically just pureed fish. They eat Purina Cat Chow dry food after breakfast is over.

I check the list of tainted cat food before I buy their food, regardless of what the stores post. I trust Dillon's to do the right thing, but I still double check.

The only problem I have with my cats food is that cause and effect issue with their kitty box.

I really don't think Bush has done much of anything that the POTUS should do, but I'm not sure that any of his predecessors clear back to Nixon have done much of anything. LBJ may be the last "Presidential" POTUS we have had ... and it killed him, literally. Events occur during presidential tenures, not because of them. Ronald Reagan did not "tear down the Berlin Wall and destroy the Soviet Union". He just happened to be POTUS at the time. Nixon did not end the Viet Nam War, he just happened to be POTUS at the time. And, the list could go on and on ... those are just the first two that came to mind. Linda, I didn't say that the global image has not worsened under George W. I'm just saying that it wasn't much better before it, and that it has been on the decline for almost 50 years, at least.

As for pet food, I have two cats who will only eat Meow Mix, which has not been implicated at all through this situation. But I have checked periodically as they continue to find more and more contamination. A friend of mine found a plaque at a garage sale a year or so ago that says, "My cats and their housekeeper live here". I have been searching for one like it ever since.

As for the "schmoozing" being Presidential, Linda, that is like saying if it wasn't for his prior convictions, we should have ran Rusty Eck for President. And I disagree that GWB is "hated" worldwide. I don't think most of the civilized world gives him that much credibility. He may be the most "laughed at" since Gerry Ford's stumbling down stairs or walking into door frames, but I think he is hated only by the Islamic militants and that hatred would extend to whomever the POTUS happened to be. I, for one, would consider it complimentary to be on their "most hated" list. It needs to be pointed out to all of them that, if we so desired, (and I do) tomorrow morning they would no longer be the world's largest oil exporting cartel, but instead, the world's largest above ground storage area of glass. The ones that survived could sell it to skyscraper developers, but not for about 40 or 50 years. And that's a problem how....?

One little sentence ("On second thought, that might be too tough for you.") was a personal attack? Not to mention that I DID address the topic.

Whatever. Blame a day in the Kansas wind for that one. I went to bed at 8 p.m. last night and woke up at 7 a.m. this morning. Could very well be that I was much too tired to be posting at all. I don't tend to resort to personal attacks.

That said...

Linda,

My cat--- Let me correct that. My daughter's cat who thinks I'm her owner, eats P. Cat Chow. My daughter buys the food, doesn't live with me, but the cat does. I skim the reports now and then and haven't seen it listed as a no-no and leave the rest up to my daughter.

As for To Sir, With Love, it's been a long, LONG time since I saw it. Could be I was in one of those "teenage" moods. *grin* I think I just grew very tired of listening to the song at the time. Lulu has a lovely voice. Sidney Poitier is a great actor. So who knows what my problem was with the movie and song at the time. :)

Question No. 1: Just exactly what is a "damned SITE"? Perhaps a casual association with the differences between synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms could clarify your communication? Just a friendly suggestion.

And, if you had bothered or were able to comprehend what I wrote yesterday afternoon, whether I "like", "dislike", "love" or "hate" someone personally has nothing to do with my professional opinion of that person -- and my professional opinion of Billary was clearly stated therein.

It's Monday morning, Tracy, and I'm going to cut you some slack and just assume you really should have had another cup of coffee or two before you tried to "kick start" your brain at 0621 instead of waiting for it to charge up as usual.

Pre: The wind was so bad the last two or three days, I can accept it as an excuse for just about anything. As far as the movie, I remember it and it was good. Actually, I liked "Lilies of the Field" better, but SP was so good, I think he could have done anything and made it successful. Having said that, that song, (it seems like they played it as every other song on every station), became as grating as fingernails on a chalkboard! I haven't heard it in years, (thank God), and since all of the pre-programmed stations in the car are country, it's doubtful I will. But, if I stumbled across it accidentally, I think I would be hitting the button instantly. They did the same thing with a couple of the theme songs from a couple of the James Bond movies that they just wouldn't stop playing, and you felt like you were surely going to barf if you had to listen to either one more time. I don't remember which two themes or movies, but I'm sure everybody else remembers the songs too. Ugh !

rm, I don't think smoozing is presidential, but does a good job in the process of being diplomatic. Diplomacy seems to be a lost cause. It goes along with respect and acceptance and tolerance which also seem to be in short supply.

I said the best part of Hillary being president (and I don't think there would be many best parts!) would be getting Bill. I'm so down on politicians it's hard for me to imagine that any one of them could be trusted. I DO KNOW ANYONE/EVERYONE IS BETTER THAN THE GUY WE HAVE NOW! There has never been a person so totally incompetent, so totally untrustworthy, so dangerous in the position of POTUS. IMO!

Now, on to making a part of the world into glass in order to deal with Islamic militants. IMO that would be a horrible, gut-wrenching, sad, BAD decision. Bush's war of choice has killed too many innocents and the people in that part of the world have as much right to live their lives as I do.

I agree about the repetitious playing of some songs ruining them for all time! Glad to know we all agree that Sidney Poitier is one class act! I saw him interviewed sometime in recent years and he remains a man I will forever admire.

Tracy: I like Powell, too. Two major problems there, though, as I see it ... CP doesn't particularly want either job, and, even more importantly, Alma has made it absolutely clear what she thinks about it. I'm not a big Obama fan, but I have to admit that I don't know that much about him. My fantasy choice is Fred Dalton Thompson/Chuck Hagel ... but I fear that's all it is ... just a fantasy team.

LInda: There have been 3500 +/- United States troops killed and 3000 + innocent civilians in the WTC killed by Islamists. Watch the news every night and see all of those "innocent Iraqis" waving AK-47's and screaming in the streets (thousands of them everyday), strapping bombs to their women, and tell me wiping them off the face of the earth is horrible, gut-wrenching, sad and bad? I don't think so. If they're Islamists, they're the enemy. We wear uniforms, we play by the rules. They don't wear uniforms and they have no rules. The bottom line is that, if that is the game they demand we play, then there is no "collateral damage". They're all combatants. They gave up their "right to live their lives as (you) do", when they threw out the rules. I would not shed a tear if all of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Somolia and Niger were "de-populated" overnight.

The truth is, if we brought our troops home and spent all those billions on energy independence, we would not need to bomb the middle east and hate islamic peoples.

That you're aware of, anyway :) Truman, of all Presidents, actually had an equally (in some cases worse) approval rating in 51 and 52, than Bush has now. We had a pretty good run of presidents from Reagan through Clinton (approval-wise, not necessarily in accomplishments) and, as a generation, are not used to having President who stands up against popular opinion for what is right (whether that is a percieved "right" or actual, who knows..).

I agree with RM in that he really hasn't done ANYTHING in office. He was elected then BOOM, 911. The popular opinion at that time said "go to war" and get those bastards. I think he was conned (because he does seem to be a bit thickheaded) into jumping into a conflict with Iraq and then has basically been sitting with that decision for the last several four years.

Outside of the war, to me, it seems as though he's created some decent initiatives like reinvigorating the space program, endorsing alternative fuels, and even "No Child Left Behind" SOUNDED like a good idea on paper.

I would say that politicians in general just aren't living up to our expectations. We'll put another dunderhead in office after Bush and the same complaints will begin popping up within weeks of his/her inauguration.

I don't disagree with any of your premises, Tracy. But, we're not bringing them home and it's time to end it. I don't care how ... just as long as it's quick and final. My plan is both.

Oil is neither good nor bad. It is simply a substance which we have exploited (in the best sense of the word) in the manufacturing of practically everything. If we had, by the snap of our fingers, total solar and wind power tomorrow, electric cars, and so on, the demand for oil would not significantly plummet, as long as there was, say, plastic? And if there was no plastic, there could be no alternative power sources, no electric cars, and so on. Or, you could replace plastic with carbon fiber...ooops, lost it there for a moment, can't do that either.
The manipulation of oil prices by OPEC (primarily Islamists) is bad. No more Islamists, no more OPEC. How long do you think Chavez could maintain power in Venezuela if he was not "propped up" by OPEC? Let's just nuke 'em and get it over with, quickly and finally.

Nuke 'em, huh? I consider that really sad. I guess then we could spend another how much on the oil fields so WE could control them? (After nuclear, would the oil even be usable?) Perhaps God or Allah or whomever would send a strong easterly wind, and then where would we all be? I just can't see "nuke 'em" as being the definitive answer.

Of course Iraqis have armed themselves. In their place, I would expect U.S. citizens to do the same. I've been saying this for 4 years. Let some soldier burst into my home in the middle of the night, speaking a language I don't understand, screaming and yelling, pointing guns at me and mine... Well, even I would get my hands on something to take care of it. Not to mention bombing my city, which led to scarcity of water and electricity, my children unable to attend school because it isn't safe for them to even be in the streets, and on and on. The U.S. (read that 'U.S. Administration') f%cked up on this one, for sure. If the above happened to me, would I hate white-skinned people? If I didn't I'd be damned close to it.

Dubya, you know me well enough to be certain that bush's approval rating has nothing to do with my thinking of him. If his approval rating says anything it's just that many agree with me.

"The popular opinion at that time said "go to war" and get those bastards." Not true! War was to be the last option! Many thought Saddam was a bad guy for many years. There are other ways of taking out a bad guy than moving in our armed forces and occupying a country! And no one authorized what is going on now! For whatever the current reasoning is!

Bush has accomplished nothing positive! Osama bin Laden may be living in a brand-new mansion in southern Arizona for all bushco knows (or cares). Our leaky borders and lack of security at home aren't even worth thinking about. Business needs that cheap labor. Who needs to worry about Americans? Not I (says bush), I'm too busy worrying about the haves and the have mores. There's oil in them thar countries over thar! He has attacked science, No Child Left Behind is an abysmal failure, his Part D prescription plan poorly done, China owns the United States, our grandchildren will be paying for his spending sprees, our individual personal freedoms have been trampled... Should I list exact and specific actions or do you get the idea?

Aren't we still a country Of The People, For The People, By The People? When did that change? I know the current POTUS has attacked our constitution like none other before him but I wasn't aware he had already become dictator. There is no "right" way for a president to stand up against popular opinion.

Yeah we still need petroleum products, but if we invest all our war billions on alternatives, we'll have enough of OUR OWN oil to do that.
And as far as govt, it is not a dem or gop problem.
It is much deeper than that.
So lets get the hell outa there and get under the hood right here at home.
Fighting them there so that we don't fight them here is a phony pretext and a sound byte. Everybody knows it.

Pre: You seem to forget that they have attacked this country, killed over 3000 people in a single day, and were disappointed it wasn't more. But, as long as it wasn't your town, your street, or your house, you can overlook what happened on 09/11. You have a need to feel sorry for them to feed your need for to feel superior and benevolent, I suppose. I have the need to wipe them out to feed my need for revenge. I want to "get even". I want to kill their women and children just like they did ours. And when we get through, then we'll "make peace", on our terms. If it wasn't for the US, our technology, our people, and our money, that oil would still be under a gazillion tons of sand. So whose oil is it, really ??? And frankly, I don't particularly care whether we nuke 'em ... conventional weapons are just fine, as long as we drop them from airplanes very high up in the sky, and take no more casualties.

Tracy: "Why don't we just leave them alone?" That would suit me, except "they" won't leave us alone. Witness WTC, London, Munich, Rome, etc. "They" had their chance (after chance, after chance) to just go away. The chose not to do that. Now, the "bleeding hearts" are wringing the hands and worrying about the "innocents"...I'm sorry, Tracy, there ain't none. We're all infidels and they hate us all. That's how "they" want it to be. It's part and parcel of their being and their religion. There's an old Hebrew proverb:

"Beware of what you ask for...".

They asked for it. Now, it's time to reward them and arrange their personal face-to-face relationships with Allah -- every one of them. Everything else you listed is absolutely correct.

Hahahahahaha! I didn't even know there were folks of Hebrew heritage in Pittsburg. No, actually, I'm sure the lady that you work with is very nice. So are my many Lebanese friends in Wichita. Born in Lebanon, raised in Lebanon, came to America because they saw the wheels coming off of that train wreck, became American citizens. They are Americans of Lebanese heritage. And most of my friends practice Islam. However, they are Americans first, and Muslims secondly.

Tracy, they've killed our soldiers. They've killed our civilians. And, given the opportunity to kill you and/or me, they would kill you and/or me. Without a moment's hesitation. I see the attitude of the Jews in pre-War Germany in too many places right here right now ... "It will be fine. If we just give them what they want, they'll leave us alone. We all worship the same God...it's only semantics." As they were led away to camps ... for their protection ... and their safety. How many WTC's ? How many soldiers ? How many civilians ? How many cities ? How many Pentagons ? When, my friend, is enough ... enough ?? Where do you draw the line and say, "No more" ? Sorry, buddy, I drew it 40 years ago, when I was old enough to understand the Holocaust and why and how it happened. I didn't hate the Germans. I don't hate the Muslims. I just made that pledge and said "Never again ... never, ever again". I'm not willing to sit around and wait to get hit again. And if we don't stop them completely, it's only a matter of time, Tracy. This isn't Nam, where we can just walk away and in a few years they'll see the "error of their ways" and capitalism will take over and flourish. This has been going on over there for thousands of years and, short of eradication, everything else has been tried over and over and over again, to no avail. So, what's left? I'm open to new suggestions.

One important point to your little rant there, rm - the muslims IN IRAQ didn't start attacking us until we attacked them. If you were talking about the Taliban in Afghanistan coming after our troops - okay, I could support that. I am in support of THAT war - we are there for the right reasons, we are protecting our country by searching for Osama. Except that, in his ferver to get to the Iraqi oil, Bush has FORGOTTEN about the biggest threat to this country. The GD Taliban wasn't even IN Iraq until we stuck our nose in where it didn't belong... The insurgency didn't begin until we went in there declaring war under false pretenses. Yes, Saddam was a bad, evil man. He deserved to be taken out of power. But GD, rm, WHEN we did it, we LIED about why, and we threw the REAL issue by the wayside... now we've gotten ourselves so mired down in a war we cannot possible win, that we are WIDE OPEN to another attack, because BUSH has FORGOTTEN about the real threat... YOU are blaming the WRONG PEOPLE, just like he did!!!!!!

"You seem to forget that they have attacked this country, killed over 3000 people in a single day, and were disappointed it wasn't more."

1. All of the 3000 people in the WTC were not Americans. (HINT: That's why it was called the WORLD Trade Center) It was an attack on the world financial stystem. The Pentagon was an attack on the U.S. armed services. The downed flight would have been an attack on the President and Administration.

2. The rest of the world was with us after 9/11 and prior to March 20, 2003. Many countries were and still are our allies in Afghanistan. What happened to all our allies (all those little countries that sent a dozen or so people) in Iraq?

3. Iraqis did not attack us (or fly airplanes into the WTC). 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis. And just who does GWB kiss up to (literally)? Maybe if GWB had pulled the troops out of Saudi Arabia as asked, there wouldn't have been a 9/11. Even the Royal Saud family is sick of us.

"If it wasn't for the US, our technology, our people, and our money, that oil would still be under a gazillion tons of sand. So whose oil is it, really ???"

4. If you discovered oil in your backyard, would you expect to be paid for it, even though you can't do anything with it without the technology someone else created?

5. The next time you need a shot of penicillin, maybe you should have to go to Scotland to get it...if indeed, because a Scottish doctor discovered it, you shouldn't get any at all. Or how about radium? Want to hop a plane and go to France for that?

"But, as long as it wasn't your town, your street, or your house, you can overlook what happened on 09/11. You have a need to feel sorry for them to feed your need for to feel superior and benevolent"

6. I don't overlook anything. Seems to me, it's Bush that overlooked who committed the attrocity and has completely forgotten Osama bin Laden, by his own words.

7. Would you like to discuss personal attacks now?

"...they've killed our soldiers."

8. I'd like to answer this as a Republican: But that's what war is. People die. Get over it.

"They've killed our civilians."

9. And the civilians of other countries. If you want to count up the civilian deaths, I'd say the U.S. has managed much more than 3000 of which weren't even all "ours". (See above on WTC)

"And, given the opportunity to kill you and/or me, they would kill you and/or me."

10. Unfortunately, our country and especially our leaders and politicians have asked for that. The U.S. invaded a country and is now occupying it. How would you react in the same situation? You're angry about the WTC, just as most of us are. But that is nothing compared to what we have done to their country. Has NYC gone without clean water and electricity for 4 years?

My granddaughter is 1/4 Lebanese. One of my cousins (American and red-headed) was born in Beirut, where his American father taught in the University there. There was a very nice Syrian family who lived on my block here in Wichita when I was growing up. My oldest daughter has a friend from HS who converted to Muslim. My former doctor is Jewish, as is the husband of one of my best friends. My heritage is German. I refuse to turn against a group of people or a race or a religion because a small faction is nuts. (Republicans excluded from that. *grin*)

BTW, hate will eat your soul.

Thanks to all for your kind words and prayers.
VT, you hit the nail on the head. It is resistant.
Last time he had to go in, it was 12 IV doses at a cost of $16,000!
One thing that EVERYONE should know about going to ANY hospital....drug resistant staff infections are rampant in our nations hospitals.
They are cheap and easy to test for, but we don't. WHY?
It can be done with a simple skin swab!
And anybody anywhere can be a 'carrier'.

This time it's only a UTI, but last time was the staff infection. Very, very serious. I guess that the staff can migrate there too. I'll have to run over to the hospital at lunch to see how it's going.
Hey, thanks all.
It's been a really rough night.
Helps to type about it.

Pre: Responding as best one can to your rambling diatribes. For the purposes of utility, I'll use your numbering sequence.

1. I see. They weren't all Americans. They were here legally and under our protection, but hey, they were not Americans, so they don't count.
2. They called their 12 troops home. We're they now supposed to send the other half of their army?
3. Islamists, that is the issue ... not the country of their origin nor residence.
4. I would expect to be paid a landowner's royalty interest, commonly a 1/8 share.
5. I don't know what the hell that even means.
6. It's actually a damned good thing you are "predestined". I'm sure it makes the trip home at night easier. You are so focused on a tree, you overlook the forest.
7. See Answer No. 5.
8. Then, as I have been saying, as a Republican, let's f**king have ourselves a war...with bombs...lots of them !!!
9. See Answer No. 1
10. NYC has never had "full time" electricity nor clean water since we screwed the Indians out of it for a bag full of trinkets. Obviously, you've not spent much time there.

I'm happy you have such a diverse group of family and friends. Perhaps, if you would shut the f**k up now and then, and listen to what they might have to say, you would learn something.

BTW, beauty may be only skin deep, but in His infinite wisdom, God realized that he could not give a woman great boobs and a great brain at the same time. I bet you were a knockout in your day.
