Since sharing quotes and links seems to be the standard these days:

I thought we should take a look at your beloved Democrat leaders!

Nancy Pelosi:

"Saddam Hussein Certainly Has Chemical And Biological Weapons. There's No Question About That." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 11/17/02)

“Others Have Talked About This Threat That Is Posed By Saddam Hussein. Yes, He Has Chemical Weapons, He Has Biological Weapons, He Is Trying To Get Nuclear Weapons.” (Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Congressional Record, 10/10/02, p. H7777)

Hilary Clinton:

"[E]verybody Knows This Is A Bad Guy And The Last Thing On Earth We Want Is For Him To Have Weapons Of Mass Destruction And A Delivery System By Which He Could Cause Havoc In His Region And Around The World. Therefore We Do Want To Get Rid Of Him." (MSNBC's "Hardball," 9/11/02

"I Can Support The President, I Can Support An Action Against Saddam Hussein Because I Think It's In The Long-Term Interests Of Our National Security..." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 9/15/02)

"Do You Believe We Could Have Disarmament Without Regime Change?" Sen. Clinton: "I Doubt It." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 9/15/02)

"That Saddam Hussein Has Worked To Rebuild His Chemical And Biological Weapons Stock, His Missile Delivery Capability, And His Nuclear Program. He Has Also Given Aid, Comfort, And Sanctuary To Terrorists, Including Al Qaeda Members." (Sen. Hillary Clinton, Congressional Record, 10/10/02 p. S10288) (FOX's "Special Report," 11/2/05)

"In The Four Years Since The Inspectors Left, Intelligence Reports Show That Saddam Hussein Has Worked To Rebuild His Chemical And Biological Weapons Stock, His Missle Delivery Capability, And His Nuclear Program. ... It Is Clear, However, That If Left Unchecked, Saddam Hussein Will Continue To Increase His Capacity To Wage Biological And Chemical Warfare And Will Keep Trying To Develop Nuclear Weapons." (Sen. Hillary Clinton, Congressional Record, 10/10/02, p. S10288)

Joe Biden:

"We Know He Continues To Attempt To Gain Access To Additional Capability, Including Nuclear Capability." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 8/4/02)

"Constitutionally, The President Has The Right To Act Pre-Emptively Go Strike The Chinese, The Communist Regime? The Answer's No. And So - But With Saddam, There Is--It's Much More Tenuous Because He Has Used Weapons Of Mass Destruction Before. He Has Made Assertions About Intentions To Use These Weapons And, Therefore, It Gives More Credence To The President's Capacity To Be Able To Act Pre-Emptively." (CBS' "Face The Nation," 6/16/02)

"[W]hat Makes Saddam Hussein Different Is He Invaded A Country; He Lost A War; The Terms Of Surrender Were Specific Requirements Made And Commitments Made To The United Nations That He Has Violated." (CBS' "Face The Nation," 9/22/02)

All your Democrat leaders seemed to be all in favor of this war, voted for this war, and even supported the President.... when it was popular.

Now that they see an easy political move, they oppose the war.

It is cheap politics at its worst. Now they give comfort and aid to our enemy while we have troops on the battlefield by saying the war is already lost.

They don't care about winning.

What did Hilary say?

"If we in Congress don't end this war before January 2009, as president I will,"

I think it is very telling that she said she would end the war, not win it.

The party of defeat strikes again!

Meant to add, if they did qualify for small business loans, could the exclusion of "quasi governmental" support be in the favor of the madam and her escort service.

Hope things are going well in MN.

Back to the "D.C. Madam" for a moment. Wondering if the popularity of escorts >50 years of age gives plausibility to the stories I've read about men who employ "call girls" and other self-employed professional women (and men, at times) of the same industry really just wanting, at the bottom line of it all, someone to talk to, company as it were. Not to discount the experience in certain other matters which may have occurred, notwithstanding the contracts and public denials, that those of us of a certain vintage might bring to the table, or whatever.

Vaughn, Wayne tells of "the wall" in Germany where the ladies sit in the windows and the men window shop. I hope I've given enough info for you to recognize what I'm talking about 'cause it's all I remember to help identify the area. Anyway, he said the older women had longer lines of men who had become friends over the years waiting in line together. So, they had friends to wait with until it was there time to be with the "friend" at the end. And, I agree the companionship may be as, or more, valuable than the more fleeting "other experiences."

And in addition to our "conversation ability" dont discount us of a "certain vintage" in the "skills" department either. Practice makes perfect, ya know? :)

Thanks for thinking of me. It didnt even RAIN here, a fact that my produce, grass, and I are ALL lamenting!

I miss all you guys -- it's been a really quiet weekend around the blog scenes. I looked at all the places and only found a few of you making even fewer comments. Hope whatever you did made for a pleasant weekend.

Did somebody secure a boat? Or figure out what a cubit is?

I added some more pics to my Photo Galleries. I can't figure out how to add friends. Guess I will need Dylan's address unless Dave offers help when he returns from his business/pleasure trip. It's frustrating to be stuck in a 33 rpm world amid all this advanced technology.

Tonight I am telling myself I will get out tomorrow and pull weeds from my flower beds while everything is soaked and they come out root and all quite easily. I often decide tonight what to do tomorrow, but often change my mind when tomorrow gets here. It's one of the big advantages to being a bum.

Speaking of tornadoes, the destruction they cause, etc. I was not quite 5 years old when the Udall tornado hit in 1955. IIRC, it was also in May, a bit later in the month. It, too, came at night, but at the time, there was little to no warning. I recall a great number of fatalities, something avoided by our current systems of radars, warnings, etc., much which I am sure resulted from lessons learned from Udall. Anyone here senior enough to recall any details on the Udall tornado, similarities as to destruction, etc., with Greensburg?

Sad news from kansas.com; two more bodies found, one in Greensburg, one in the Kiowa County Lake. Also, due to a leak caused by breaking a valve on a rail car with anhydrous ammonia, some of the folks let back into town today had to be evacuated. Don't let the meth heads know; they'll be trying to get in before the leak is fixed!

I'm barely older than you Vaughn so my memories are like yours. My parents didn't let us watch news like that but I heard some of the talk. Sadly, Udall was never rebuilt. Do you think because it was so close to Wichita? I hope Greensburg does rebuild -- I think there is healing in that endeavor.

Frankly, given the devestation to Greensburg, I wonder if it makes sense to rebuild. Yes, it is the county seat of Kiowa County, but this could be changed by legislative action. With a total population of 1500 - 1600 (generous, IMHO), and the time it will take to rebuild infrastructure, etc., I suspect that many of the younger residents currently displaced will not return.

"UDALL, KANSAS

Udall, Kansas, about 30 miles southeast of Wichita, underwent almost complete destruction from the tornado which struck about 2235 CST. Motorists were reported to have seen the tornado funnel approaching Udall. It struck the southwest corner of the town first, traveling almost due northeast with destruction occurring over the entire width of the town about three-fourths of a mile. The only habitable structure left in town was a frame dwelling with only minor damage on the extreme northwest edge of town. Except for a few other dwellings in the northwest corner of town which were twisted, moved, and badly damaged, the only building in town not completely leveled were a few two-story masonry buildings from which the upper story had been removed. There was evidence of rotation although it was confused somewhat by the pattern of lightweight debris, much of which indicated a southwest to northeast flow. It was common, for instance to see a large tree having fallen to the southwest, and a large piece of tin wrapped around a smaller nearby tree with its free edge pointing northeastward, obviously having been carried by a southwest wind. Destruction requiring immense forces however did yield indications of cyclonic rotation. A municipal water tower in the northwest part of town was toppled toward the southwest. The center of rotation passed across and almost right angles to a train of railroad cars on a railroad siding. The cars to the northwest of the center were blown off the tracks to the southwest and the cars between (over a distance of about 11/2 city blocks) were still on the tracks.

Some evidence was found of "explosive" effects. A concrete block building about 30 feet by 40 feet had stood in the southwest part of town and was apparently near the path of the center of the tornado. All four walls had fallen outward, leaving the floor area relatively clear of debris.
Eyewitness accounts were not available from Udall until several days afterward because of understandable confusion and the shock that most survivors suffered. Mr. Wheeler Martin, a survivor from Udall, reported that there was a "roaring noise" at about 2220 CST followed by hail and rain. The wind was from the southwest and getting stronger. After a few minutes, the house began to shake. At 2235 CST it "collapsed." The hail continued for several minutes. Beyond Udall, the path of major destruction ended. Spotty damage extended for 18 miles east-northeast of Udall.

A carefully conducted survey of damage accomplished by Mr. Phillips revealed almost positive indications that at least from the time the tornado crossed U.S. Highway 166 and throughout its northward traverse through Udall, a continuous path of destruction was apparent. There was some "skipping" but the greatest skip was on the order of 3 ½ miles. This evidence together with the radar evidence strongly suggests that this one storm had a continuous path for more then 50 miles. "

Above from the tornadochaser.com/Udall site; the comments here are a part of the total "coverage" of the tornado, and are credited to Brad Lawson on the site (IIRC).

Udall, at present, has a fairly modern high school building. There is a museum dedicated to the tornado, as well as a post office and other business buildings (including at least one bank). I've not been there for some ten years. Interestingly, each late summer (before school starts), the Udall school district places an advertisement in the Eagle inviting students to enroll. The people in Udall understand that if there is a forced consolidation of schools such as occurred in the 1960s, their school district WILL be consolidated, likely with Oxford's, and they don't want that to occur.

ok peoples
We're having a major issue with the meetup.
The meetup on Saturday May 12 is being postponed!
Construction on McLean is forcing a closure on the west side of the park where our reserved shelter is. The only other time we can meet on the same day is before 11 am. Meaning that we have to meet and clear out by 11 am.
Rest of May is booked for the park. Trying to get in the first part of June.
I just found out about this last night.
Any ideas people?

As I live "right off Kellogg" I am able to attest that it may be completed before the sun finally burns out; maybe just a bit, but progress is occurring on a daily basis. It appears the next step (directly affecting me) will be the opening of the west-bound Kellogg Drive frontage road from Armour, together with the entry ramp onto Kellogg proper just west of Armour. At least, that's what it looked like this morning; by tomorrow, it'll likely appear different.

I had taken some time off from work, but will do the same for whatever date in June. Expect to possibly be changing my hours about that time, any way.

I will keep checking in. Still would like to meet my buddy, WSC.

Sorry the current time did not work out.

I saw Randy Olson at the WSU CAC theater last night. That was one awesome presentation. Randy was a Havard trained evolutionary biologist, who 15 years ago resigned his position to go to film school in California. He has interesting ideas about the communication of science information to the masses. He is currently writing a book about such.

Being in KS is more interesting than I ever knew.

Take care all.

VT, I just saw your post on the Udall tornado. I think you're a year older than me. I was almost 4 at the time. My dad worked 2nd shift at Boeing, and my mom and I had just attended the graduation of one of my cousins in Clearwater. We knew the weather was getting bad, so we headed home to Wichita via old 81 highway/Broadway. We HEARD the tornado that hit Udall. Even as young as I was, I can still remember it. My dad didn't hear the news until he got off work. One of his fellow workers lost his parents in the storm.
