Kansans Looting Kansans

Wichita Low-Lifes

I haven't had a "Low-Lifes" post in quite a while...and these guys weren't from Wichita, but I still needed to write a little blurb about it, regardless.

Apparently there were several people in Greensburg over the weekend who were using their uniform in order to LOOT the town. State Troopers have had the town closed off since the tornado last week, only letting residence into the town starting on Saturday. Even THOSE people had to leave after 6pm.

They seemed to be doing a very good job at keeping potential looting to a minimum. What they were NOT prepared for was a group of people, including soldiers from Ft. Riley and a Reserve Police Officer, using their uniforms to get past security and loot the town:

"GREENSBURG, Kan. - Four Soldiers and a reserve police officer were arrested Sunday on suspicion of looting cigarettes and alcohol from a store in this tornado-ravaged town, state officials said.

The Soldiers from Fort Riley Army base and reserve police officer had come to assist on their own and were not part of any official detachment, said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the state's adjutant general."

This was the first CAT5 tornado in nine years. It was 1.7 miles wide and destroyed 95 percent of Greensburg. 10 people died, these people are almost ALL homeless, without possession, and there is doubt as to whether or not Greensburg will even exist after this is all said and done...and here we have people in uniform abusing their privilege and STEALING what very little these people have left.

Despicable.

On top of that, I read on cnn.com that there were two more arrested in Greensburg yesterday for looting; these were dressed in Red Cross jackets.

To follow up on the category for the Greensburg tornado. This is the first EF 5 (Extended Fujita 5) since going to the new classification scheme. I understand that it would have been a category 3 under the "old" Fujita scale. Regardless, it was a monster storm.

They are low lifers! Used their uniforms (which SHOULD indicate something higher and nobler) as a disguise. Well, bush's war of choice has meant all standards have been relaxed.

I see more often today the repulsive attitude of, "I've got a gun." This attitude screams (to me) I'm in a position of authority and I've got a gun, I'm better than you, above you and more deserving, stronger than you, give me a chance to show you how strong I am, I'm looking for a fight so I can prove my superiority and I have very little control over myself and even less ability to resolve anything in a peaceful calm manner. I’VE GOT A GUN!

None of that is anything but bullying. They are people in adult bodies with immature minds. It isn't strength, it isn't intelligence, and it isn't honorable. I am ashamed of those and ashamed they represent my great country. But we have a weakling in the presidency and he prefers waging war to the more-difficult making/keeping peace. He sets the example for low lifers.

I heard about this while watching KSN's storm coverage yesterday. Sick, sick, sick.

A little change of topic, but if you need a laugh, chuckle, or something to make you groan, check this out:

The problems with Mexico are bad enough, but now we're p!ssing off the Canadian government? Good grief! How paranoid can they get?

Is it too much to ask for Americans (contractors, here) to try to become a bit familiar with the coinage/currency in countries where they visit before they make the trip?

I think it is detestable that people would abuse their uniform to do this.

However, I think it is a far stretch to try to blame this on Bush or the war.

Are you that desperate to hate Bush that you must really try to blame EVERYTHING bad that you can find on the man?

It is irrational, you know that don't you?

Guess if your government tries to keep you scared some with less brains than others become paranoid. Our tax dollars at work.

The first time Wayne and I went to Canada (for a FUN trip to Vancouver instead of a camping trip) he went to the bank and brought back Canadian money. He handed me these bills of all different rainbow colors and I asked, "You expect me to take this monopoly money seriously?" As you would expect, I didn't! He kept the monolopy money coming and I kept it spent.

A few years ago my sister and her hubby and Wayne and I went to Ireland where the euro is the accepted currency. The men told us the $1 and $2 euro coins were drinking vouchers and we were to return those to the men who would make sure they were used only in pubs. We let them think we were buying their line of bullsh**. Men!

Well, among all the discussions of deadlines, timetables, benchmarks in D.C., here come the Iraqi Sunnis with a deadline of their very own, May 15, 2007.

As General Petraeus observed back in March or early April, to finally settle the matter in Iraq will take political action, not just military action (looking for link which I hope I boodmarked). If the Sunnis are threatening withdrawal, then the al Maliki government is moribund, and I cannot see but where the violence will do anything but increase.

Transcript of press briefing 8 March 2007. The entire transcript is interesting, the comment about which I was thinking is about 3/4 the way down the page. BTW, sorry for not posting this on the current Open Thread, misposted first remark so I wanted to be consistent.

I've a feeling that the Army types from Ft. Riley will wish they hadn't had this "brilliant" idea once the Army finishes with them. I'm not up on current regs, etc., but when I was in, the time these guys are cooling their heels in the civilian lockup would, if their commander so decided, be treated as being AWOL. Given the bad publicity, I suspect that's how it will be treated, and wouldn't be surprised if a Special Court Martial wasn't convened to deal with it. Also, if the military can determine a conspiracy among the four, all of a sudden they're potentially looking at a General Court.

I suspect that what might happen is an opportunity to "resign for the good of the service", with an Undesirable Discharge being the offer. While they might not be so inclined, it would be better than the Bad Conduct Discharge they could receive from the Court (in a Special) or a Dishonorable Discharge (in a General). I would think either of those would be likely, given the "bad press".
