Man stabbed repeatedly in attack by large group

A 20-year-old man was taken to Via Christi-St. Francis early Saturday after he and a 19-year-old man were attacked by about 10 people in the 2000 block of S. Meridian, police said.

Sgt. Lem Moore said the 20-year-old was stabbed 20 times in the upper torso and neck. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The 19-year-old suffered minor injuries, Moore said.

Witnesses told police the attackers were driving a Green Honda hatchback with the letters ATC on one side.

So what you are telling me here is that "10 people" jumped out and stabbed one of two guys 20 some times and left the other virtually unharmed...

Not only that, but they were driving a distinctively GREEN honda with gang affiliated letters on the side.

....while we're on the subject, could someone please explain to me how TEN people fit inside a honda hatchback (presumably a CRX)???

I'm sure it doesn't make sense at ALL that the two started to scuffle and the 19 y/o stabbed the 20 y/o multiple times, making up the whole story out of self-preservation.

Now, I wasn't there, though. That's complete conjecture.

Not exactly WICHITA low-lifes, but Kansas, anyway.

Two children in Leavenworth, KS, 11 and 14 were arrested yesterday after holding up a discount store (read: Dollar General, Dollar Store, etc.) with squirt guns. They had apparently wrapped the guns in black electrical tape to make them appear more realistic. The two boys were apprehended only a few minutes later by police and did not abscond with too much money.

The concern here, of course, is their age. What on Earth is happening to this country? An 11 year old ROBBING A STORE AT GUN POINT? Granted it wasn't a REAL gun and no one was hurt, but give me a break! How in the hell does a kid that age get the idea to rob a store and THEN actually engage in said activity?

When I was 14, the thought of acting out against anyone (other than my parents, perhaps), let alone a stranger, scared the hell out of me! At 11, I wasn't even thinking outside of my own little world of GI Joes and Legos...

What an amazing change in just a few decades.

Kansans Looting Kansans

I haven't had a "Low-Lifes" post in quite a while...and these guys weren't from Wichita, but I still needed to write a little blurb about it, regardless.

Apparently there were several people in Greensburg over the weekend who were using their uniform in order to LOOT the town. State Troopers have had the town closed off since the tornado last week, only letting residence into the town starting on Saturday. Even THOSE people had to leave after 6pm.

They seemed to be doing a very good job at keeping potential looting to a minimum. What they were NOT prepared for was a group of people, including soldiers from Ft. Riley and a Reserve Police Officer, using their uniforms to get past security and loot the town:

"GREENSBURG, Kan. - Four Soldiers and a reserve police officer were arrested Sunday on suspicion of looting cigarettes and alcohol from a store in this tornado-ravaged town, state officials said.

The Soldiers from Fort Riley Army base and reserve police officer had come to assist on their own and were not part of any official detachment, said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the state's adjutant general."

This was the first CAT5 tornado in nine years. It was 1.7 miles wide and destroyed 95 percent of Greensburg. 10 people died, these people are almost ALL homeless, without possession, and there is doubt as to whether or not Greensburg will even exist after this is all said and done...and here we have people in uniform abusing their privilege and STEALING what very little these people have left.

Despicable.

Arkansas City Missing Person

Well, it would seem the story of the missing Ark City girl is going to end sadly. Her car was found in the bottom of a nearby lake and "a body" was recovered from nearby woods.

The police have not confirmed the identity of the body, but the local funeral home (small towns, go figure) did confirm that the body was that of Jodi LeAnn Sanderholm, 19 y/o college student.

What baffles me in this case is that it took them 2 days to figure out she was probably in trouble, but once they found the body and the car, they had a "known stalker" who had been harrassing her and other members of her team for weeks.

What the heck? How is that effective law enforcement? Wait until the stalker becomes a murderer???

It's very sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Sanderholm family.

I wouldn't normally comment on something so riduculously stupid, but it's definitely a story worth mocking.

Apparently a woman in Derby decided she could, while intoxicated, outrun the cops. Not only did she speed through the bedroom community of Derby in excess speeds of 80 mph, but then...when she was unable to elude the police...decided that turning her lights off might make her invisible.

To a certain extent, it worked, the police did call of the chase, only to shadow her until they could pick up the chase outside of residential areas.

Near 63rd St and 127th St E, they ran her into a field where she then fled on foot only to be chased by a K-9 unit. After she STILL refused to give up chase, the sheriff's dog took her down, "breaking the skin" in the process. Poor drunk.

Sheriff plans DUI patrol tonight

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office will conduct a DUI "saturation patrol" tonight.

Four deputies and a sergeant will be patrolling throughout the county from 11 p.m. through 3 a.m. Saturday with a special focus on drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

According to the Sheriff's Office, drivers and passengers are 2 ½ times more likely to be killed or injured when a crash involves an alcohol-impaired driver.

It's about damn time

Funeral Protesters may indeed have the right to free speech. They may indeed have the ability to say what they want, when they want and where they want. They may also be the most vile and despicable people on the face of the Earth...and some people have just had enough of it.

Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder of York, PA was killed in Iraq on June 5th of this year. His funeral was picketed by the fanatics from the Westboro Baptist Church (feel free to Google the actual website yourself) in Baltimore, KS. Rev. Fred Phelps claims that soldiers and marines killed in Iraq are God's way of punishing the U.S. for "supporting" homosexuality.

In a truly abyssmal and tasteless display, pictures from the funeral were posted on the Church's website after the funeral. Who in the hell do these people think they are? It's like some nutjob killing a Doctor so he won't perform any abortions.

The father of Snyder filed suit claiming the Church hindered their right to privacy and defamed the Marine and his family by protesting and posting the pictures. The lawsuit defaulted to the Church since the God-Fearing Reverend decided to not show up to the court hearing and is being forced to pay $3,100+ in fines.

It's about damn time. Perhaps more families should stand up and run these jackasses right into the ground. A more deplorable aspect of humanity, I have never witnessed.

Did THAT family "support" openly or otherwise, the cause they were protesting? And where in the hell did they make that connection anyway? The last time I checked, my friends who've died or been maimed were hit with IEDs planted by Muslim extremists...not thunder smote from Heaven.

Thank SOMEONE for the Patriot Guard Riders; born right here in Wichita, KS. They are the DEFINITE voice of reason that helps this wacked out pendulum swing back towards sanity.

Yes...and you thought that it was just an Urban Legend. Last night in south Wichita a man called police to report he'd been robbed at gun point. The theft? One pound of the ganja...weed...marijuana. Apparently the guy who was originally going to buy it decided to instead whip out a shotgun and just take it.The nerve.

No kidding. Seriously.

The man was taken into custody and charged with several things including possession with intent to sell.

....and people doubt Darwin.

Wichita Identity Theft

That's right...ID Theft is on the rise. Today at the EWBA Monthly Meeting (East Wichita Business Association), one Detective Lung, a 15 year Veteran of the Wichita PD approached the group on the topic of Identity Theft and ways to protect yourself.

His report was very clear and to the point: Identity Theft is on the rise. It's not going away and chances are it will happen to you or someone you know if you don't take the steps to insure your safety.

(Seems like a no-brainer, but..) DON'T keep your SOCIAL SECURITY CARD in your wallet or purse.

The Point: You don't need it for anything in your day to day activity. If you come across a situation where you might need it, bring it with you that day. The odds are heavily against someone stopping you and quizzing you on proof of your citizenship by way of your SSN Card...

DON'T carry your Check Book around with you.

The Point: More and more places aren't taking checks. There is no easier way for ID Thieves to get ahold of your identity than by swiping a purse with a checkbook in it. Just don't carry it. Don't use checks, use a debit card (see below).

DO use a Bank Check Card whenever possible; preferrably one without the ability to act as a credit card.

The Point: Check Cards have a PIN number that acts as a password to your account. If they don't know the PIN, they can't use the card....at least not to get direct access to your bank account. While they may still be able to charge things, you can at least dispute those charges (most of the time).

DON'T sign your Credit Cards!! Put "Please See ID" on the signature block.

The Point: Why would you give a thief the ability to practice and mimic your signature? By putting "Please See ID" you are obviously concerned about ID theft and if the clerk at all checks the back of the card, they are going to ask for your identification.

DON'T use the freaking MAILBOX in your front yard to mail OUT.

People put checks, CC payments, etc. in their mailbox for the postman that are just easy pickings for ID thieves...they even put up that cute little red flag to let potential pilferers know there is something in there worth taking.

Why is all of this important?? According to Det. Lung, the law in Kansas is WAY behind in punishing offenders EVEN IF THEY CATCH THEM. The only criminals Kansas is sending to the slammer are the murderers, rapists and high profile burglars.

For offenses like ID theft, they rank right up there with shoplifting, DESPITE the incredible damage they can do to a person's credit.

Kansas has a 3-strike rule for ID Thieves. The first offense is PROBABTION...that's right, they slap them on the wrist and send them packing. The second is a large fine and perhaps extended probation....only on the THIRD offense, does the offender ever see jailtime.

Don't help these people perpetuate their crimes. Think smart. Believe it CAN happen to you. They are out there, they ARE waiting and they are NOT going to be punished for it. It's up to you to defend against it.

Guns don't kill people; they just permanently maim idiots...

My God...just when you think you've heard everything, some miscreant shows you just how INCREDIBLY wrong you are.

For those of you who haven't heard the story, let's give you a minute or two to catch up.

Not only are these not-quite-teenagers attempting to KIDNAP someone over a dispute concerning stereo speakers, but THEN the guy puts the pistol back in his pants and blows his nuts off! Not just ONE misfire, but TWO!

WOW.

How did this moron get a gun in the first place? I'll tell you how....you have to have CONTROL in order to responsibly allow people to wield firearms. It's somewhat implied in the phrase Gun Control.

I'm never one to say do away with guns entirely. How could we possibly get rid of first-rate assholes like this? The simple fact of the matter is Gun Control does a great job of keeping the guns out of the hands of people who use the legal, legitimate channels.

Guess what?! Criminals don't use LEGAL CHANNELS! I can almost guarantee you this lugnut DIDN'T HAVE A PERMIT for the pistol that blew his gonads through the back of his pants.

We don't need new laws that place more restrictions on people who purchase firearms....we NEED police and the FBI and the ATF taking these weapons off the streets! Get rid of the weapons; there is no need for a person to carry around a .45 Desert Eagle. Self-defense? Bullshit! Get the illegal weapons off the street and there won't be a need for hand-cannons as a method of "self-defense".

An amusing quote from the Wichita Business Journal this week: "Any businesses that plan to prohibit concealed handguns in their buildings will have to display specific signs, Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline said Tuesday."

How..? What?.....WHAT? Again, this law doesn't necessarily affect the legal use of guns. Anyone following the law will have the appropriate training, licensing, etc. Those who aren't OBEYING the law won't care if they have the LEGAL right to carry a concealed weapon or not.

The PROBLEM is there is no need for it. Put more restrictions on gun MAKERS, limit or even eliminate the guns that get out onto the street and you won't NEED to carry a berretta in your coat pocket!

Am I the only one who sees this logic?
